4-Star ATH Marquise Doherty Reveals Top 5: Iowa Makes The Cut

Awesome. Sounds like a heck of an athlete. If he is a 4 star in football let him play both sports if he wants.

Agree, wonder what position he projects at in baseball or what kind of prospect he is there.

Edit: Looks like a hard hitting outfielder with a pretty good arm.

Did some quick checking what type of baseball programs each school has ... Louisville has been very solid since 2006 ... K-State was 45-19 two years ago and 25-30 this year ... Oregon started its program back up in 2008 and finished 46-19 and 48-16 the past 2 years ... Surprise, surprise ... Oregon seems to be investing money in everything ... Missouri was 18-32 in the SEC ... and Iowa was 30-23 ... SO depending on if the kid wants to be close to home? Or how good of a baseball player he is ... I would say Iowa has as good of chance as any of the schools (if he truly wants to play both sports) ... Of course, anytime you add Oregon in the mix many recruits get caught up in the glitz and glamor that has become Oregon athletics. When I lived in Oregon in the early 90s you would not have even known it had a football team ...

I don't know how much it matters, but Oregon already has a 4-star safety recruit along with a deeeeeeeep stable of rbs. We can't compete with their facilities and perks or their baseball program, but as far as football goes, he has more opportunity to play at Iowa.

If Iowa baseball doesn't make a resurgence last year, Iowa Football wouldn't be in his top 5.

If he is a great athlete, he might see quicker playing time with Iowa baseball which could factor. My guess (just my guess) is that Iowa is probably leaning more towards recruiting him at safety for football which is also a position of need and could be open to playing time sooner too no?

From ESPN Insider:

Social Studies
Marquise Doherty is not only one of the top running backs in the country he’s also one of the top baseball prospects around. So when Doherty tweeted out Tuesday his top five schools -- a list that consisted of Iowa, Oregon, Missouri, Kansas State and Louisville -- he indicated all the schools have talked to him about playing both sports in college. Some have pegged Iowa as the team to beat because his former high school teammate Aaron Mends is a freshman with the Hawkeyes, but Doherty says official visits will be key for him.

not sure if he is friends with that WR from Columbia, MO who committed to Oregon earlier this year. not that that would influence necessarily.

Looks like the real deal.. Iowas Baseball program is on a bit of an upswing too. I'd rather Iowa be in his top 5 than not. Louisville does have a good baseball program. There was a couple pitchers from Cherokee Iowa that played there a few yrs ago.

With Safety and RB still being a big need in this years class, Doherty is the perfect recruit right now.
