4 Former Hawkeyes Among NFL HOF Nominees

I thought the HOF messed up royally by not having TO on the first ballot. I believe they made him wait 3 yrs to get in. Only because he wasn't widely liked by coaches and other players.... He was as much of a no brainer as there's ever been. His stats are ridiculous. He's a top 5 top 3 WR all time to many. So if they are going to play games like that with who gets in and when it takes some of their credibility away. It just does

I personally had no problem with that. There's no question they intentionally made him wait a few extra years. However, the dude was a total cancer in the locker room. His behavior on the Eagles was borderline unforgivable. I would never want a teammate like that on my team no matter how talented.

All that is true. Coaches teammates and opponents all don't have nice words to say about him. However I just don't think that's what the HOF was to be about. I thought it was about their play and impact on the field. His was ridiculously undeniably great. Granted human beings with feelings are who vote not robots. I just don't like the subjectiiveness to it all.

Think Pete Rose...

I think I see what you mean by that. Obviously TO didn't gamble and put himself in any kind of situation like that. TOs issues were more in the locker room then anything. Pete Rose probbaly didn't have a ton of friends in the industry either though due to his personality. It's not apples to apples but I kinda see it.

Totally agree with your points. Gambling and being a bad teammate are two different things. But it points out that voters are human and they sometimes don't like bad humans, whatever the variety!
I am probably one of the few people who think Pete Rose should be in the HOF. And yes, I think TO deserves to in there too.

I'm with you on Rose. I think he should be in HOF. There's no second guessing his stats and impact on the game. Just put a huge asterisk on his plaque spelling out what he did gambling wise and how he tarnished the game yadda yadda. But then again I believe the HOF for baseball is separate from MLB and as an individual entity they can just make up their own rules.

My thoughts on Rose is that you bring him in as a player and either put an asterisk next to any mention of him managing or simply omit anything related to him being a manager. I'm by no means saying the guy is a choir boy, but there's been way more done to tarnish the sport in the last 20 years.
