It will be interesting to learn more about what contributed to this decision, as I recall Payne seemed stoaked about playing up tempo ball under McCaffrey.

Lots of interesting scenarios.

1) Is Payne leaving to leave, or has he been told someone is going to commit and doesn't want to lose PT?

2) Is Washpun now officially on the radar? If we have another guy on the hook, Washpun could be an energy guy off the bench.

3) Does this help us with a potential Olaseni-Katenda or Hubbard scenario if we can add a legit PG to the mix, thus making Iowa more appealing?

4) Will Payne be the only guy to bail / will Archie be back? 4 spots would be a lot to fill this late in the game, but the staff has a ton of offers out.

5) Over / under on how many "we need to offer Cougill now!" threads appear tomorrow?

Best of luck to Cully. He played his tail off on a bad team and never let up, even in the blowout loss to Michigan in the BTT when he scored 25 if memory serves.

I would say #3 certainly helps with bringing in another player this spring and #5, I hope 0 but I'd say 1 thread and about 7 posts.

idk but if Fran somehow could pull off Katenda, Olesani, and Carter...we would be in business next season.

I think a great combo would be Jackson, Hubbard, and Olesani. I think that would bring in two guards with experience that can play right way and create along with a big that should be able to at least provide some steady defensive minutes. Plus, the athleticism of the Iowa team would jump a couple notches.

I think this actually helps the team.

If Iowa can land Jackson the JUCO PG it would be a great fit.

Add another JR to the class that currently contains just Eric May.

Jackson is looking for playing time and I think there is great appeal now that Cully is gone and there will be available minutes.

Does anybody know when our top targets (Olaseni, Katenda, Hubbard, Carter, Stokes, Jackson) plan on making their decisions?

Carter and Hubbard are in no hurry.
I think the duo in KC will be deciding sooner than later.
No idea on Stokes.
Jackson and Smith will be deciding soon too.

Signing day is, what, a week away now?

I think we can do better than Cougill.

3 spots left, nobody signed and, IMO, a desperation offer to Washpun. Between Iowa and TN, I would say we have a less than 50-50 chance given Martin has been in on Washpun for a while.

I think the fallback needs a fallback at this point. I truly hope I eat these words, but I just don't see a scenario where we land Hubbard and Olaseni. Katenda is not in the picture IMO.
