With Payton joining the club there are now 3 active players in the 1000 point club. And, as we discussed in another thread it's a pretty rare occurrence. I thought I'd create this thread and follow the3 through the postseason to see how high they can each climb the ladder.

As we have also discussed in another thread, there's no telling if any of them return next year but we'll worry about that next season, which right now seems a long way away.

There's a chance this team will be two and done and if that's the case none of them will climb much higher. But maybe then can make a run somewhere in the postseason and have a few more games.

There's always a lot of coulda, woulda, shouldas in these numbers but they are what they are. I remember last year Kris Murray finishing in the 900s. It would have been nice if he could have joined his dad and brother in the club, but he didn't.

It was sort of a sad affair that for most of the night last night none of these 3 could hit a shot, including the 4th member of this club (although Krikke scored most of his points up North). Sanford finally found the range, but the rest of the senior 1000 club was shoot at a peach basket with a lid on it.

I agree this is a cool stat. Probably never happen again.

How about Melshan Basabe having 1 more pt then Kingsbury?! That'd make for a great trivia question I'd have gotten wrong.
I would have TOTALLY got that one wrong as well, but in hindsight it would not be well thought out by myself. Slimetime started as a freshman and basically didn't leave that spot for 4 years... King Kingsbury only played 3 years and sat out for the fight he had and smoked too many heaters (bummed him one once at the Sports Column) when I saw him and Andre Woolridge out on the town in like 95/96ish.

Are you calling Melsahn, Slimetime? I never heard that, where did it come from?

I remember when Melsahn was finishing up and some were wondering how he ever made it to 1000 points. He took exception to that saying that he had hooped it hard, had earned being in the club. You can't argue with hat, he did score 1119 points as a Hawk, no mean feat, that.....

Yeah, he used to say it was "Slime Time" before games and I think it was a nickname/moniker of his. I know I am sometimes labeled a "sunshine" pumper on here lol, what I am is really just a big fucking fan who literally digests endless amounts of information about Iowa hoops.

Basabe was a pretty good player but man has this program come a long way since his freshman year. He was one of our best players when he was a true freshman.
