24 hours away from the start of a packed week of Hawkeye hoops!

While I understand the difficulty involved with preparation/rest for the players and coaches, as a fan I can/t help but be really giddy at the thought of 4 games in 8 days. I would totally sign off on a 3-1 week right now as long as one of those W's is against Wisconsin tomorrow.

I am just ecstatic with where this program is right now. My hope is the coaching staff stays intact for another year or two. This should be a fun month or so.

Too early prediction for tomorrow: Iowa 83 Wisconsin 79 (Basabe double double, Gesell 14 and 7 assists)

I hear ya. Since the 1 game in 14 days window is almost behind us it is going to be a jam packed finish to the season for the Hawks.

I want a crack at MSU for at least a share of the B1G regular season title.

We just have to handle our business and get a Michigan State win Sunday. We then get a chance to ruin Senior Night for Michigan State.

It will end up being the craziest Big Ten schedule ever for the Hawks. There are 9 weeks in the Big Ten season, and for Iowa they will end up playing 2 game total over 3 of those weeks, and 16 games over 6 weeks. And that is in a season where Iowa has the toughest Big Ten slate in the league. So, if they do finish third, it will be a great accomplishment. If they had an average Big Ten slate, in a routine 2games/wk rollout, they probably would have won the league.....a shame it had to be this way, but I tip my hat to them for hanging tough.

Honestly, if I have to choose I prefer 3rd while playing a lot of quality opponents. The easy schedule might get us 1st but it just isn't as much fun IMO. I also have absolutely no doubt that this team will be as ready as they possibly can be for the NCAA Tournament with the schedule we played this year.

Edit - I should add that playing this schedule gives us the chance to beat the other top tier teams...control our own destiny.

I can see your point, as a younger fan, but us old guys still value the Big Ten title quite a bit. I know that March Madness has taken over the sport, rendering everything from Nov to March meaningless, but I still prefer winning the Big Ten to a Sweet Sixteen slot.

LOL - I won't ask your age but can assure you I'm not a "younger fan" do appreciate the sentiment. I would agree that the Big 10 title means quite a bit. But being as old as I am I remember the true round robin schedule. Take away the true round robin and it's not the same...comparing apples to oranges when comparing schedules IMO. So the regular season title is never a "true" and "pure" thing these days IMO.

I agree, I enjoy watching Iowa play the top teams in the conference. A lot of people are looking forward to Iowa's supposedly easy schedule in football next fall but I'd rather they played Michigan and Ohio State every year.

I know it would probably never happen but I wish both sports would cut down on the amount of non conference games and play more conference. Those games are much more fun to watch and you will never be the best if you cannot beat the best.

I agree with this....cannot wait til the league goes to 9 league games in football, and wish they would go to 20 league games in bb. Nothing can beat playing league opponents.

I am also a fan of 9 conference football games, and would like to see 20-22 basketball games in conference.

Remember this kelley, even ohio state and michigan benefit from a soft schedule from time to time. It's just more visible when it happens for the hawks, because those years Give us an exponentially better shot at winning the conference. Where as ohio state has a better chance of winning it with any schedule. Masking the easy seasons.

There will never be a possibility of a round robin football schedule again. Even with a 22 game conference schedule in basketball there will be 4 teams we only play once. As it is we will play 5 teams twice and 8 teams once next year. We shall have to learn to love the soft years. This in turn makes the BTT more interesting.

The 14 team conference is kind of weird, but I suppose one day I will be telling my boys that there only used to be 14 teams in the B1G. So, like it or not, it is what it is

I thought you have had a lot of experience watching the Hawks over the years, somewhat like myself, Windsor.....

It did seem more fair to play all the teams twice in a season. Now it is the luck of the draw every year, but all teams have the same problem.....

Now it is really going to be impossible to play all teams twice, with Rutgers and Maryland on board, that would be 26 conference games...

All we have to do is take care of business tomorrow, then beat the next team on the schedule, to the end.....

The problem is teams do not want to give up home dates and would be less likely to play home and away against quality non conference opponents. If it was up to me I would have a round robin in basketball and have a 26 game season. But that is only 13 home dates with 4-5 non conference games.

If it was up to me I would have a round robin in basketball and have a 26 game season.

It used to be that 20 wins in a season meant an NCAA berth. Under this scenario 20 would be the magic number for winning the conference...20-6. Can you imagine?

I would love this but it will never happen for the reasons you stated. Also, is it possible to build up an RPI with so few non conference games? Just curious...know it will never happen.

Glad you are pumped about this week. Too bad it's the week Iowa goes from being a 3 or 4 seed to a fighting for an 8-9 seed. But enjoy your week anyway.

Very sad you aren't. This team has been a breath of fresh air compared to Lick ball. If you can't find enjoyment from Iowa playing, what's they point in commenting.

There's loss # 2 of your great week. Thursday will be number 3. But, have a great week anyway.

Ya I don't know about that packed week. Hopefully the Hawks salvage against Purdont this weekend.
I just don't know how we have any legs for the IU game.
