2021 season look ahead, just for fun

While I always appreciate optimism, I think folks on this thread are seriously underestimating the loss of Stanley. You can't expect a first year starting So. Qb to go into a night game at MN, and on the road at OSU and Happy Valley, and expect to come out with ANY wins. A W at any of those locales this year would be a big-time upset. My seats at Kinnick are low enough to physically sense the timing, speed and accuracy of many of Stanley's sideline throws. I'll be a believer when I see Petras do the same on a regular basis.
I'd take Minnesota off that list. They lose literally their ENTIRE defense.

This team is loaded offensively. If Petras can just make the right throw at the right time and not turn it over, we will be just fine. If he gets happy feet or looks clueless, it could be a long season, despite the talent level. And missing the entire Spring and Summer is going to really hurt him.

Makes you really wish Peyton stuck around. There's always a comfort level to a two or three year back-up. No safety net this year if Petras goes down it could be very ugly. Don't know why we can't keep out back-ups in the mix more except in blow-outs (which Iowa doesn't have very often with Kirk ball) with the occasional wild-cat of fake play. Give the back-up a role once in a while to keep them around. Guys today want to be part of the action, or it's portal time.

I can't imagine a scenario that could possibly happen that would get the back up quarterbacks any meaningful snaps in any game. No matter how bad the blowout is, when the back up comes in he isn't going to be throwing the ball so how does handing the ball off really help in preparing to be a starter? Stanley will certainly be a big loss, but what else is being underestimated is that Petras was second team and got an entire season of first team reps. If he is protected, I think he will be fine.

It will be interesting if the 2020 season gets cancelled, if the Big Ten will keep the original schedule for 2021. I am guessing they probably will to keep the home and away rotations set up the same for odd and even years.

But I wonder if they will try to push out the original 2020 Big Ten schedule out to 2022 to complete the original 6 year rotation that was set up for 2016-2021 where everybody was supposed play everybody at least twice. Once at home, once away.

2022 was supposed to be the start of a new 6-year rotation where Iowa starts playing Rutgers every year instead of PSU. But I have been predicting 2022 is going to be the year Big Ten ends up scrapping its divisions and starts sending its top 2 teams to the CCG instead. But now there is new twist if 2020 gets cancelled. There are a lot of options for 2022 to consider.
