2019 Outback Bowl Significance

If the Hawks won the Outback Bowl, they will likely finish the season ranked. It’s always better to finished ranked than unranked.

I've come to accept that bowl games are meaningless. Iowa pissed the middle part of the season down their legs. This game won't redeem them should they win. It also makes little difference if they lose.

In my heart, I've adopted the Washed Up Walk Ons mantra. "Hawks by a friggin' Million."

But my head says, Iowa struggled to rush the ball much of the season. MSU has a top notch defense. They will force us to throw, and their d-line will eat Stanley alive. I've got a very bad feeling about this one. Terrible match up for Iowa. As usual in bowl games.

Therefore, I say...HAWKS BY A FRIGGIN MILLION!!!

But not really. MSU 24 Hawks 6

Absolutely, but I'm seeing a team that is one of the least opportunistic squads I can remember in many years. Many times they had the chance to be the lead dog whether in a game or contending in the West.

This team seems more like an 8-5 caliber team than a 9-4 one to me. If it's close I don't like our odds with this year's team.

I think we can win this game. A win over an SEC team always tastes sweet. Not to mention how much it would help us in recruiting in the South. You guys are giving MSU way too much credit. They are basically one dimensional already. Stop their run game and we can win. They only avg. 125 yds passing/game. Our defense isnt much less than theirs, but I think we still have an average run game but our pass offense far exceeds theirs. Easley and Hock are clutch receivers and Brandon Smith will be playing against a home state school. Field position, turnovers, and penalties will decide this game and I tend to side on the Hawks in these areas.

I guess it comes down to what “meaningful” means to each fan. I would think that most fans want to wear their Iowa garb out in public as a statement of being associated with a winner.

“Hey your the team that with the fans and players turn and wave to the children in the hospital.” It’s a great thing but has NOTHING to do with on the field performance. Iowa in the world of top ten football programs is totally irrelevant. Seriously 9-4 or 8-5 who gives a rats ass but Iowa fans???

If it wasn’t an SEC team we are playing I wouldn’t give an EFF about the game. Totally meaningless in college football relevance. With out looking tell me who won the last three meetings in this bowl game?

The only ray of hope would be if Iowa wins B1G and then builds on it going into next season and kicks Azz next season.

I hate the SEC and their whore media station ESPN.

South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee. It's a B1G bowl tie-in. B1G hasn't played weel in it for several years. I think Wisconsin was the last B1G to win it, in OT over Auburn. I remember it only because I remember following it while at the Citrus Bowl that day watching Missouri beat Minny.

I think one aspect is most important, does this game mean that much for MSU? How motivated will they be? What does a win over Iowa mean to their season, or are their talented players going to avoid getting hurt? Enjoy the vacation?

Iowa tends to get steamrolled by talented teams, but Iowa often does have a chance if they play a team that isn't a high scorer.

Stanley can't play skeerd, Iowa has to hold their own on the line play. Kirk and son need to have their "A game" in preparation and in the fluid world of in game coaching. Hmmmmm....

I don't have a sense either way of who might win the game. Not sure of the betting line.

10-7 Iowa?
