2019 Grid of Shame, WSJ

Interesting article in the WSJ dated today about the top 100 or so football programs and how they stack up in two categories: Powerhouse success on the field and integrity/shame/embarrassing. Iowa is listed as being a bit above average in terms of on field success. No arguments here. Kirk tends to focus like a laser on making sure Iowa reaches that above average plateau. In the more important category of integrity, etc. (upon which Kirk gets his accolades, praise, raises) Iowa is down the cesspool area sitting next to Penn State, UCLA, Michigan State, et. al. nibbling on embarrassing. Far above average in integrity are schools such as: Northwestern, Pitt, and...clearing my throat, what Iowa used to be U...Wisconsin. Opinions?

Funny how a school that presents itself as making sure we are "creating good people and citizens" rather than reaching for wins at all costs is in the integrity sewer.

Also odd that the AD just got a nice raise...based on what, I do not know. Perhaps those responsible didn't check the facts that closely.

At any rate, it is an interesting article and chart. Accurate or not?

I'm pretty sure I'm not trusting the WSJ to judge anything related to sports. Finance? Sure. Sports? Hard pass.

Ahh, SpiderRico, so naive. The WSJ sports section is actually pretty good because they try to do reporting on sports, rather than hot take analysis and human interest stories to fill space. People bashed the WSJ sports section pretty hard back in 2010 when the WSJ said Iowa was destined for a fall.

Why did they say Iowa is low in integrity? Was it due to Barta and Kirk's nepotism?

No recruiting violations
No dudes going to prison for quite some time
No reports of players hitting women
No hint of scandal within the football program
No ex players bashing Kirk or the program
GPAs probably at least acceptable

What are they basing it on?

Number of arrests, probably. Doesn't matter what for. Just base it on numbers, and the Hawks don't look so great.

Now, if they were to look at punishments/suspensions/expulsions, they'd actually have a realistic view.

I'm not going to defend Ferentz, but that WSJ article was crap.

I did a post not too long ago on programs that have suffered the highest number of suspension penalties issued by the NCAA since 1953. Most of the usual suspects (including Ohio State, Wisconsin and a bunch of SEC schools) were on the list. Iowa and Iowa State were squeaky clean. Base your analysis on that stat, and not who has the most traffic violations. That is a dumb article.

Also, I would point out that WSJ has been printing this graph for some time now. Most years, Iowa has scored extremely high in the "most admirable" category. Do your research. You need to check your facts. Sloppy.

I think the WSJ was basing it on their analysis of Iowa State University, in Idaho City, Ohio. To the many on the coasts, including the writers for the WSJ, the "middle states" are just one blob of dirt.

Gotta be the Barta lawsuit.
Bingo! WSJ based where? One of the most liberal states in the country, NY. And if you think a lesbian getting fired and then winning her lawsuit doesn't qualify us to be sitting right next to pedstate then you really don't know NY liberalism!

How about the category of fans/women stalking Iowa players?
