IOWA, BIG TEN ANNOUNCE 2018 AND 2019 FOOTBALL SCHEDULES

Park Ridge, Ill. -- The Big Ten office announced the conference football schedules for the 2018 and 2019 seasons today, as approved by the Big Ten Directors of Athletics. The schedules continue to include nine conference games, as Iowa will host four Big Ten games in 2018 and five league games in 2019.

Along with playing the six members of the West Division in both seasons, Iowa will meet East Division opponents Indiana, Maryland and Penn State in 2018 and Rutgers, Michigan and Penn State in 2019.

Beginning next season, the Big Ten football division alignments will feature Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers in the East Division. Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin will represent the West Division.

Iowa’s home slate in 2018 includes home trophy games against Wisconsin (Heartland Trophy, Sept. 22) and Nebraska (Heroes Game, Nov. 23). Iowa and the Cornhuskers will continue to play on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, in both 2018 and 2019. Additional home conference games include Maryland (Oct. 20) and Northwestern (Nov. 10).

The Iowa road schedule in 2018 includes games at Minnesota (Oct. 6), Indiana (Oct. 13), Penn State (Oct. 27), Purdue (Nov. 3) and Illinois (Nov. 17).

The Hawkeyes get an early jump on conference play in 2019, as Iowa hosts Rutgers on Sept. 7, the second weekend of the season. Iowa resumes Big Ten play at Michigan on Oct. 5. Additional home games are against Penn State (Oct. 12), Purdue (Oct. 19), Minnesota (Nov. 16) and Illinois (Nov. 23).

Iowa closes the 2019 regular season with the Heroes Game at Nebraska on Friday, Nov. 29. Iowa also travels to Northwestern (Oct. 26) and Wisconsin (Nov. 9).

Iowa will announce its 2018 and 2019 non-conference schedules when all opponents and dates are finalized.

This makes no sense.

There isnt one player on any team in the B1G that will still be on the roster when the 2018 season opens unless they get a 6th year.

Freshmen that are redshirting this year will be seniors during the 2017 season.

A lot of things change in 5 years.

It'll be interesting to see what Iowa does with the non-con schedule now that there will be 9 conference games. ISU isn't going anywhere, and there are already lower-tier schools in the schedule for 2017-2019. Iowa needs to fill one slot for each of those years, and I expect that the 2016 model will be followed. In 2016, Iowa plays non-con games against Miami (OH), Iowa State, and North Dakota State. I expect that ISU will now regularly be the only BCS-conference team on Iowa's non-conference schedule most years. I'm not sure I like that.

Pretty sure it will be home/away with Iowa State, a home against a FCS, and a home against a MAC. I am sure they would lineup the ISU home game to be the year they only get 4 conference games at home to ensure 7 every year. There is no way they could afford to do another home/away with another BCS school.
 
Not ever playing another BCS school would be horrible. It's like Iowa is begging me to care less and less about their football team. Not that that sort of thing would be any kind of deciding factor but it sure doesn't help me build much excitement when we have to play the same teams every year and both our rival and conference is mediocre a good chunk of the time.

But how else would they do it? There is not another BCS school that would agree to just coming to Kinnick and losing a home date would be very costly. Basically the extra conference game took the place of the Pittsburgh/Syracuse type series, the only difference is now the game counts towards the conference standings. I would even be in favor of the B1G going to 10 conference games per year, then Iowa could drop the ISU game and play 2 warm up non conference games against MAC/FCS schools.
 
schedule could set up very nice for us also if we joined the MAC.

Not trying to be too big of a Debbie downer but as of late hasn't mattered what schedule we played.
