2016 Projected Starting Lineup

Mitchell does not need to put on more weight. My god he's the perfect size for a rb right now, and should be getting a lot more carries. KF needs to decide on 2 backs, and play them the majority of the time. As it is now, nobody plays long enough to get in the flow of the game.

Not a ton of weight, but 5-10 lbs would help him with carries out of the backfield. He's versatile.

We are in trouble at both defensive ends. I'm sorry, but just because a player gets more experience doesn't mean they're going to be that much better. If the talent isn't there, then development only goes so far. Same with the Oline. Product of poor recruiting. Recruited a bunch of receivers, and we are still down in talent there as well. I think Daniels will be a good player, but the others on the Oline, I just don't see it. Our pass protection has been horrid all year.

We'll badly miss Ott, much like we did this year, if he doesn't return(btw, what was his star ranking, how'd he look as a Frosh?, a little undersized maybe?....attitude, development, it can go quite a ways). Then again, who wouldn't miss a likely 1-2nd rounder?

I'll agree our focus on WR recruiting reduced depth a bit at Oline. That said, I think overall our Oline will be pretty solid.

Btw, you couldn't be more wrong about experience and development at the Oline position, very few of the Hawks playing Oline in the NFL over the last 15 years were 4+* recruits.

If you weren't so resoundingly negative on every post, it would carry more weight when you were critical.

King has until January 15 to decide. They couldn't officially apply for Ott's medical redshirt until the season was over so it probably happened over today or sometime this week. The committee doesn't meet until February 22-23.

Based off of what I saw against Stanford, both Hesse and Croston are not even serviceable. Hesse weighs the same at Shalique Calhoun but has the edge speed of Jaleel Johnson; this cannot be fixed.

Croston was pounded all game as well, against a defense that was ranked 7th in the PAC-12 against the run. We were the only team that couldn't run on Stanford all year.
We made no commitment to the running game. We did the same thing in the BIGCG against MSU. Its a real head scratcher.

I'd like to see Mabin move to safety, and let Jackson and Fleming battle for the other corner, now that King is returning.

I'd like to see Faith step up at DT, and someone at De. We obviously need to get some playmakers on offense so I agree we should maybe mix King in there a bit and get DMX plenty of touches.

Lastly, I think we should get Ahmad Wagner out for football as a red zone WR. Let him practice with CJ only on routes inside the 20, while still focusing most of his time on hoops. He's 6'7 with hops. BOOM!

When is Kirk going to release his January 2016 pre-season depth chart? Isn't it about time?

Personally, I think they may be connected. If Ott can come back, it promotes King coming back. When Ott went out, Kings production went down, that's not a coincidence. A DB's best friend is the front 4 being able to get pressure and rush throws. Also, if the front 4 and LB can contain outside run game, takes a lot of pressure off secondary and they can be more aggressive.

50/50 at this point. I'd be huge if they both return.

Torn ACL is 1 year return on average. That would put him back in circulation in October and missing all of winter conditioning/spring practice/fall camp. I think the only reason he would come back is to utilize the practice opportunity to rehab. I don't see him starting. And that's even IF he's granted the medical redshirt, which also seems unlikely.

The University of Iowa has some of the best sports medicine around. On top of that Drew Ott has one heck of a work ethic. My guess is that he will be ready a month or two ahead of when most people would be. That puts his return around the start of the season.

I think focus of recruiting receivers will start to pay off next year. The young guys have now been in the program for a year or two and I feel it is now realistic to expect them to compete for playing time. And that word compete I think is going to really help that development. VandeBerg is the only player I feel is definitely a starter next year. Jerminic Smith is the favorite to get the other spot, but guys like Falconer, Scheel, and Ogwo will hopefully will all push each other and make each other better. Since all 4 are underclassman, hopefully this doesn't lead to a player or two transferring if things don't work out for the "losers" of the competition.

And personally, I actually like the idea of using Mitchell as a multi purpose player. He gets a couple of carries a game. Sometimes he can motion out of the backfield and into the slot which would make sense because he is a converted WR. Hell, maybe he could even return kicks if it's in his skill set. As I say this though, I know doing such things is out of character of the coaching staff so I don't expect it. Or maybe I'm overrating his skill set. But ultimately, I think it's the way I think we could get the max contribution from him.

I think it will be very hard to keep Cedric Lattimore off the field. 6-5/265.

He plays a year with Ott and then the next three with AJ Epenesa!

I also think Emmanuel Rugumba will be tough to keep off the field on O.
