Here is how it might work out. There is a lot of talent coming back to go with new talent. This line up could also change with position flexibility as there are players that can play multiple positions. Overall this team has everything it needs to compete for a championship. Experience, depth, size, speed, and shooting touch.

Starters the same as the second half of 2015-2016.

Post: Megan Gustafson, Chase Coley
Forward: Ally Disterhoft
Guards Whitney Jennings, Tania Davis

Post position back ups:
Hannah Stewert, Carly Mohns, Tagyn Larson

Forward back ups: Christina Buttenham, Amanda Ollinger, Bre Cara

Guard back ups: Alexa Kastanek, Mackenzie Meyer, Alexis Sullivan

I agree with the starters and the only back up I'm not that big on is Alexa. I'm hoping Mackenzie shines pretty early. I feel like that knee injury to Alexa has hindered her and I don't know if she'll outdo the new comers. I never got to see Hannah play so does anybody have any insight to her.

Christina always does a good job too when she comes in. If Carly is healthy she can be a spark too. They missed her after her injury last year, but she is coming along well. Mackenzie Meyer could be an all time great before she is done. Hannah Stewert was close to contributing this year, she will be better. Alexa definitely will be playing, her role as a 3 point shooter will not be surpassed.

That is the likely second 5. Better depth than last season.

Very nice write up. I would add a couple things. I think Bre Cera will play mostly guard since she's 5'10"and Carly will play more forward since at 6'1" she's a little small for post play. We need hannah Stewart to step up next year. Coach Bluder said she thought Hannah might be ready to get some of Carly's minutes when Carly went down with injury. It didn't happen. but an offseason of work can do wonders. Last year Carly was about where Tagyn Larsen is this year, but a lot of hard work turned her into a rotation player before she got hurt.It appears Meyer and Ollinger will be the most ready to contribute (especially Meyer), Cera is a good shooter and Sevillian is a good scorer and you don't know where they are developmentally until they start practicing.

Bre Cara is listed as a wing so that would be similar to the Ally Disterhoft 3 position. Yes the wing players have flexibility to play to also. I was including 4 and 5 positions as post back ups. Since they will play a combination of 2 larger forwards when Megan is not in. I think Chase 6'3" or Hannah 6'2" would play the 5 position.

My comments on Bre Cera were mostly based on viewing her videos. She plays mostly outside and doesn't drive much hence I called her a guard. Wing players are to me are more versatile like Ally can score inside and out and defend around the basket if necessary. Don't know if that's true of Cera - her skill set is more of an outside shooter. It's going to be a good team next year with a lot of depth and hopefully more inside toughness, because Megan's going to need help. I think Chase is going to be more of a face up player.

Megan would like to thank all you fans.

BHGP retweeted that Whitney Jennings and Tagyn Larson are leaving the program.

It's not too surprising that Tagyn Larsen left. She looked to be down the depth chart and if she wanted to play she needed to find a better opportunity - good luck to her. I'm wondering if Whitney Jennings felt like her skill set might play better in a different system. She is an excellent shooter, but has never really developed consistent 3 point range, and with what Iowa runs that's pretty important. We can't have two guards that are only adequate 3 point shooters (Davis and Jennings). I think Whitney will do well wherever she goes, but she's a scorer more than a 3 point shooter. My guess is Kastanek starts until Makenzie Meyer is ready; probably about the start of the conference season. This will open the door for more 3 point specialists. Good luck to both young ladies.

I am sure that Alexa will get back into starting form. She is one of the more experienced players on the team. I have liked her since she got here. Bre Cara will probably get more time at the 2 now. Mackenzie Meyer and Alexis Sullivan can back up both the 1 and 2 positions.

I hate to hear that anybody is leaving. Last year I had heard rumors that Whitney was terribly homesick and almost left last year. Don't know how true that is but I sure hate to see her go.

Megan we are all super excited for next season also! Work on your footwork and free throws and get out there and kick butt! I know you will!

Would love to see Alexa get back to form. Where I think she struggles is getting beat off the dribble. Defense isn't her thing but yet again it wasn't Melissa Dixon's thing either. If she can get the 3's falling that will make up for it.

We will miss Whitney, but another site was saying it was about her boyfriend back in Indiana. We at least have better depth at the guard position;if we were to lose inside players it would be much worse. Good luck to Whitney and her boyfriend.

Just an interesting aside. Bre Cera recovered from her broken finger to lead her team to a runner up finish in the state tournament - they lost in the finals 52-46. Bre had 25pts. and 9 rebounds. She played for the same AAU team that Melissa Dixon was on. Her 6'5" teammate Morgan Glatczak is going to Ball State. Too bad Coach Bluder couldn't have gotten a package deal for some more size. Alexis Sevillian (a teammate of Tania Davis ) has scored over 25 points in all but 1 game this season.

All 4 of the incoming freshmen are looking great. Tremendous senior seasons all around. I have confidence that they will step up.
