...... and other random thoughts.

Somebody needs to make a simple T-shirt (black with gold lettering or vise versa) that says: Baer
Down

-- Iowa's length was really a problem for Mich St last night. I don't know how many blocks Iowa had but State really had a problem getting decent looks and the length really disrupted what they wanted to do.
-- State can be exploited at their point guard position.
-- Tying in both above, the Iowa zone was real effective with Iowa's length and making State shoot over them.
-- Iowa rebounded very well yesterday which doesn't happen too often against State.
-- Iowa pushed the pace which really surprised me. They did to State what Mich State usually like to do to others. The ball was getting up the court fast.
-- Baer is a true Diamond In The Rough. What a gift to have him fall on Iowa's plate. A terrific all around player with a very heady game. Baer has an effect on almost every play, offense or defense. Always in the correct spot and spacing. He could be the X-factor to fill White's absence along with filling the need with the unfortunate injury to Dale Jones. Somebody had to step up after Jones went down & Baer has done that and more. He isn't a liability on the court & good things happen when he's in the game. Just a terrific all-around player who can play 3-4 positions. In addition, he has the length to give opposing players fits.

Just an overall great Hawk victory last night. If they can pull that off at Purdue Saturday, heads will turn & people will notice that Iowa could be in the mix in the conference run. If they win Saturday, I wonder if they will break in the rankings.

BAER DOWN IOWA!!

There are some that criticize Fran's recruiting...taking so many Iowa kids being one of the issues. But look at the native Iowans on the current roster...Jones, Jok, Uthoff, Woodbury and Baer. I'm not suggesting our roster be made up entirely of kids from Iowa. I'm saying the best player (or two) from the state most years is a quality D-1 basketball player. And I hope Fran continues to own the state of Iowa as it relates to recruiting. Baer isn't even on scholarship...unbelievable.

I like the way the kid hustles and gets after the ball even going to the floor which leads me to this comment...........
How does Fran Get rid of a headache? He gets a Baer assburn. :)

Iowa has had a good run of talent the past several years. They need to make sure they can continue to pluck the top D1 players from the Omaha area and should be able to get them over Nebby. I also think they should hit Kansas City & the St. Louis areas as well while the getting is good.

No you didn't. I don't know if I should thumbs up that or not........ah hell with it. Thumbs up.

Another key point that I noticed last night is that they answered every run and didn't fold. They sustained the lead & took it home. That was huge for this team, knowing how to take it to the end.

Baer is a hustle animal no doubt and that sets him apart but for some reason no one wants to mention just how athletic this kid is. That's how you get yourself in the right spot then make the plays. He's not just in the right spot. He gets it done. Blocking shots and teaching yourself to be a B1G level 3 point shooter in one year takes serious athleticism. Having the speed to run the floor like he does takes athleticism.

Nick reminds me so much of Aaron white, just a more advanced version, already has a better shot. Going to be fun watching him get better every night out!! Keep it going guys next up Purdue Saturday GO HAWKS!!!
