2014 MBB Recruiting...

Bring me up to speed on 2014 MBB recruiting. 2014 recruiting will be pivitol for Fran and the Hawks. The momentum we have will depend greatly on the next class or two.

With Basabe, Marble and McCabe leaving who is committed so far?

Who are the other targets?

What are your thoughts as to needs?

My impression is that we will be in dire need of some real athletic bodies to raise it to the next level.

Thanks

It sucks, we missed out on our top 6 or 7 targets. We got a white guy from Wisconsin and a foreign guy from New Jersey, neither of who have any other major offers. Need to hope Fran pulls a miracle out of his *** and lands a transfer this spring or this is as good as it's going to get.

I don't track this nearly as well as many others. The recruiting thread at the top of the basketball page is updated frequently by those that follow recruiting and have a sense of what's happening. I suggest reading the last 2 or 3 pages of that thread.

Actually Uhl had offers from a few other big ten schools and a few ACC schools and Ellingson had an offer from Mizzou and Utah which are both in big conferences.

Some of Uhl's offers:

Temple, Boston College, Penn State, Minnesota, Maryland.

Serious question... When did you turn into a dope?

I used to think you had some decent input put all of a sudden everything I read from you is negative Nancy.

The tape on Uhl looks pretty good. Probably more of a true wing-forward (more developed perimeter skills) than say White or Uthoff, which is something we need. I think Uhl also will upgrade our athleticism. He's probably one of the top 5 athletes on the team next year.

I still think we need another plug-n-play wing/combo guard that is athletic and create off the bounce for next year.

My first thought is getting somebody like this. The Hawkeyes have enough skinny guys. Need a big banger at the PF, about 6'8", 245 pounds, 8 percent body fat.

Fran’s looking at a couple JUCO guards that can create their own shot and get to the rim (Trey Dickerson is one) but hasn’t offered anyone. Willie Atwood is a big guy he’s evaluating.

He better offer them soon. A lot of good schools getting in on them. If Fran misses out on these guys, oh boy. This class will be a disaster. Hopefully fill it with a top notch transfer maybe. With that said, the real payoff for this season will more likely come with the 2015 class. Fran has got to get some big time play makers in that class though. Hate seeing Iowa State land Vaughn. We need to get someone like that. Program difference maker.

Will be a disaster? It already is.

LMAO people always think our classes are disasters. Marble and White had 4 stars combined, with McCabe the 3* guy along with Basabe in those classes. Currently we have three 4star recruits, all Sophomores. Lost one megastar to Kentucky this year. Jok is an obvious Starter post-Marble. I personally like Ellingson but Uhl might grow into that frame. Fran already proved he's willing to take on a transfer if needed. It won't be needed.

Dude why are you ganking all of my material???? ;)

My prediction for a breakthrough recruit/program changer/immediate impact player is Joseph Toye in the 2015 class. Most of this just boils down to having zero success the last 8 years and needing to win a game or 2 in the tourney. Kids don’t wanna go to program that isn’t successful.

Won't be needed?? Iowa still has 2 open schollies for 2014. If Fran doesn't land Dickerson or Atwood then this class filled 2 of the 4 schollies. So he will have, what, 6 schollies then for 2015? Not sure having 6 freshmen in one class is ideal. Especially if they are all "under the radar" type guys. Fran needs JUCOs or transfers to balance out the classes.

Uh, ISU hasn't landed Vaughn, and as a Cyclone fan you're going to be disappointed when he chooses UNLV this coming Tuesday.
