2014-15 projected line-up and bench

Starting line-up
PG - Gessell
SG - Olgesby
SF - Uthoff
PF - White
C - Woodbury

Bench
SG - Jok
PG - Clemmons
C - Oleseni
PG - Dickerson

Lightly Used
SG - Ellingson
PF - Uhl
C - Meyer

  1. If Fran can land Atwood it would appear to fill a much needed spot in the rotation.
  2. Thoughts on who contributes more next year ... Uhl or Ellingson?
  3. Beat Northwestern!

Meyer will be next year's McCabe....but a taller version. He'll play. Clemmons might not be back....agree. Same lineup as this year without Basabe and Marble...ouch....double ouch.

Basabe seeing playing time dwindle to only 14 min vs IL, so his loss can't be that great....

I foresee White rising up to help out with Marble lost. Not in same way but defense to offense points much more. I think Uhl will be more needed than ealingson but that depends on how well we score with more experienced players.

Also hope Uthoff is much more mentally tougher next year. By committee and overall team hopefully they can over come Marble and basabe lost. But it'll have to come on both ends of court.

I am not sure Olgesby has done enough to earn a starting job....

Yes he has. He has played starters minutes in quite a few games this year.

If Iowa lands Atwood:

Gesell
Oglesby
White
Atwood
Woodbury

If Iowa misses on Atwood:

Gesell
Oglesby
Uthoff
White
Woodbury

Starting 5 with backups listed:

PG - Gesell / Dickerson / Sapp

SG - Oglewinkel / Jok / Ellingson
SF - Uthoff / White / Uhl
PF - White /Uhl / Stokes
C - Woody / Olaseni / Meyer

6th Man:
Olaseni

Off the bench playing a significant role will be:
Olaseni
Jok
Uhl

Sapp has a few more years of playing for Fran under his belt so he would likely hold the edge of leading backup PG heading into the season. Uhl is going to be good but he needs to put on some weight to play the 4.

Gessell
Dickerson
Jok
White
Woody

My thoughts... we need to move White back to the 4 so he can use his quickness as an advantage against the big guys and be able to match up on D.

Same thing at the 3 spot, I'm going wiht Jok because I think he can stretch the D with outside shooting and create some open lanes for our two quick guards both Mike and Dickerson. In regards to Dickerson, I just believe we went the JUCO route becuase I think Fran believes he can and will contribute right away.

Bench:
Ogeslby - will come in for Dickerson, Dickerson take a couple minutes and come back in for Mike.
Uthoff
Uhl
Olaseni

If we have Dickerson and Atwood, I would like to see Ellingson and Uhl red shirt. They both could use more time to develop physically and I am not sure how many minutes would be available to them as freshmen.

PG (Gesell, Sapp, Dickerson)
SG (Oglesby, Jok, some Gesell)
SF (Uthoff, Atwood some, maybe some Meyer)
PF (White, Atwood, Olaseni)
C (Woody, Olaseni)

That is 11 players. Red shirt the true freshmen if that is the scenario!

Whats the story on Atwood ? Can he play the 3. Because I think White starts at the 4. no matter what

5 slender white guys starting for Iowa = 0-2 vs OSU, MSU and Wisky

Have to agree. That lineup is not going to put up many points, or deter the opponent from putting up a ton of pts. We need more explosive, athletic players; particularly at the guard spot. And for God's sake will someone please show some of these guys where the weight room is. No excuse for Uthoff, who is 3 years removed from high school to have the frame and strength of an 8th grade girl. Going to need Woodbury to improve greatly too.

NOTE: THIS LINEUP IS IF ATWOOD COMES ABOARD.

PF - Atwood / White /Uhl / Stokes
C - Woody / Olaseni / Meyer

Uhl should redshirt but I doubt he does.

I dont see any way Uthoff starts at the 2. He cant keep up with 3's in the B1G on the defensive end this year.

The only way I see Uthoff starting is if Atwood doesnt come to Iowa. The 2 spot will be either Oglesby or Jok, IMO.

If Iowa lands Atwood:

And pretty much has done nothing in those games, just cause you get starter minutes doesn't always mean you should be getting those minutes.

I'd like to see Gabe start in 2014-15 and maybe play some 4 if possible. Problem is I don't think Woody really has a viable backup besides Gabe. Gabe has made large leaps in progress every single year, and lately he's been hitting that 10 foot jumper as well. He should be a real force next year.

As someone who watches tons of college and NBA bb, I have to admit having an all-Caucasian starting lineup would look different. If they could make a run to the Dance and have success it would be like Loyola 1963 as a team with all black lineup winning the NCAA for the first time. Can Iowa achieve the impossible and have a great season with that lineup? Hope so, but not optimistic.
