2013 for the Hawks

Here are my thoughts on what the Hawks will look like and do next year.

125: McDonough: 1st
133: Ramos: 1st or 2nd
141: Ballweg: AA
149: Big question mark in our lineup hoping for Carew but doubtfull don't expect much here.
157: DSJ: 1st
165: Evans: AA (Can't beat Ethan)
174: Lofthouse: 3rd
184: Gambrall: AA (I think Brooks is pretty close to Grant right now)
197: Burak: AA
Hwt: Telford: 1st to 3rd

Is that enough to derail the psu train...... I don't know but you can count on Taylor and Ruth in the finals and AA's out of the Alton's for sure. A lot depends on what he does with Meg and Guilibon but they will have a few holes also so anything is possible!! Cant wait till next year.
 
If the Hawks can't win with that outcome, ouch. Separation in matches is going to be key this coming year. Iowa has been able to beat the best guys, but had a hard time seperating from those they should. I would like to see DSJ become a leader next year. His attitude along with Ramos' and McD's need to be spread to the upper weights.
 
133 is going to be really tough. Steiber, Oliver, Ramos, as well as Graff are all back. Throw in a possibility of PSU Meg or Guilbon.
 
I wonder if Oliver will move up now that 141 has cleared out. Hunter Steiber seems a little easier to penetrate than Logan.

Evans will not be at 165 next year. You seem so sure he can't beat Ethan. I guess we will see.

Coach Smith just commented on his show that Oliver may be at 141 next season and try to bulk Kindig up to 149. I'm assuming Rupp and Morrison would man 125 and 133.
 
If they have 9 AAs they should win the tournament. I don't think they'll get 9, but hopefully 7-8. Here's how I see it. Finish 2nd as a team.
McD-1st
Ramos 1st-3rd
141 - X
149-X
DSJ 1st-3rd
Lofthouse 2nd-4th
Evans 3rd-5th
GG 3rd-8th (who knows)
197-X
Telford 1st-4th

You think Brooks is close to Gambrall or he is close to Gambrall? Like I said, put Telford in the weight room and you'll see a completely different wrestler.
 
I agree Bobby Telford with added muscle is the complete package. I also believe Evans can beat Lofthouse next year. I honestly think it just makes our team better with those two switching. Ethen will be a monster at a loaded 165 next year.
 
I think you guys have Lofthouse finishing way too high. I have heard Gambrall may not even wrestle next year. Evans needs to move up to where he was in HS - he's too slow footed for 165.

Here's my prediction:
125 - 1 McD
133 - 3 Ramos
141 - dnp Ballweg
149 - dnp Dziewa
157 - 1 or 2 StJ
165 - maybe 8th with Moore wrestling out of his mind
174 - 7th by Lofthouse
184 - 5 Evans
197 - dnp Brooks
HWT - 3 to 5 Telford

I wonder if the steibers end up 141 & 149. those two are so thick they have frames that could carry a little more weight.

so lets say evans wrestles Ethan to a 1 point match where Ethan has the lead late. so of course evans will win, Ethan doesn't win those matches... can Ethan get to 165? I know he does in the off season with a 24 hour weigh in. eye ball test el looks like a 165 pounder.

all our upper weights, not just telford need to find out what MN feeds/injects their upper weights. I say that with respect bc they are stacked!
 
I have been drinking - one beer. You'll have to tell me specifically what you are referring to. If GG it comes to me from a longtime fan close to many in the program. I think it's a lot of speculation - he's getting married apparently and may just not have wrestling as a priority anymore. Plus when you look at how this year went with the concussion/weight I could see it having some legs.

I think Logan will stay down for sure. the summer before last he was competing at 121, the last year he was going at 125 until the injury. 133 this year and will probably compete at 132 this offseason so i would think he'll stay. not to mention i could really see Oliver going up.

I agree about the upper weights resembling the MN guys. MN guys are always jacked and have been for years (though Mack has clearly gotten off that program, holy cow that's terrible.) I sat 5 rows off the mat at nationals and Telford had the worst looking body of any HWT. You can say he's young but he's been in the room for 2 years w/ nothing to do but eat, wrestle, and lift. I would expect more than that. Hopefully he can put on some horse power this summer. Cuz he could be a real beast then.
 
Are we going to have any viable options at 141, 149, 197? Will any of these weights even qualify for nationals? If not it will be extremely hard to beat PSU.

What do you mean by your Mack comment? Mack Reiter?

Definitely agree with you that Bobby needs to focus on building up his body this offseason. Look at Tony Nelson a year ago. He was at least 20 pounds lighter, finishing 8th. Now look at him. NCAA Champ.
 
yeah i was talking about Reiter.

i think if Bobby can change his body physically it'll give him a lot more confidence to attack more because clearly he has the skill when he attacks.
