2012 WR Amara Darboh

I don't think he played much if any Varsity last year, but I could be wrong...
I will see what I can find out.

I hope the hawks get this kid. Receiver with a lot of athleticism, somewhat raw. Found this catch he had in 4A state semis as a soph last year:

Heard that he could be top recruit in the state in 2012. Heres his info:

This will be a good program tester for ISU. Paul Rhoads is from Ankeny, and your campus is 30 miles away from the kids HS, and you are running a pass first spread(in theory anyway). If Iowa pulls this one away, it is a sad day for ISU.

I dunno... I graduated from Dowling and I had no reservations about enrolling at Iowa...

Darboh is getting a ton of looks in both football and basketball due to his raw athletic talent. He will be a Jr. this year and on track for a breakout year. Biggest issue is consistancy and making himself present in the offense for both sports. IMO he has potential to be a stud DB at either of the state schools....if they can keep him in the state.

Do you play football? The college experience is vastly different for a student and a student athlete. The apt thing to ask is why did you choose UI? I choose ISU growing up in Hawk country because I was looking into primarily hard science majors(ISU being better at engineering), and ISU was slightly cheaper on tuition as well. If you wanted to go to Iowa because they were better at your preferred field, that is great.

I am assuming that Darboh's priority is going to be more on football and less on academics(we all live in reality here). That assumption would also entail that he wants to stay on offense and play wideout. He will have a better opportunity to catch balls in a spread than in the Iowa offense, IMO. I realize Iowa has better pro receiver prospects now, but all I see is how Keenan Davis's abilitites were wasted on Ken O Keefe last year. History tells us he will be going to neither if his recruiting picks up.

Been to Dowling practices and have heard them talking about him going to Wisc. camp last year. They were impressed

Funny, I went to Iowa because of my interest in hard science (not engineering)... and now that I work as a researcher I know that I made the right choice. Anyway, it didn't hurt that, after giving it several open-minded tries, I just plain don't like Ames (regardless of whether or not the Cyclones are there), and because 20 minutes just didn't seem like quite enough distance from my parents. Point being, there's quite possibly more going on beyond academics and athletics... and it's not that hard to hop on I-80 and make the 90-minute straight shot drive east to Iowa City. Hell, the kid may even want to leave the state of Iowa altogether, whether it's to be near family in other states or just because he wants to see what else is out there.

A few counterpoints ....

ISU is admittedly better in engineering. However, the disparity between the two schools concerning physics is rather subjective. ISU arguably has a more impressive group of experimentalists, whereas Iowa arguably has a more interesting (and possibly impressive) group of theorists. Furthermore, Iowa's department is more intimate than ISU's department. As a result, some while back, I chose hard sciences at Iowa for some of those very reasons.

As for football, here are a few points:

- ISU's passing attack under Herman has yet to surpass Iowa's passing attack
- Iowa's Campbell is considered one of the best WR position coaches in the nation
- Iowa's pro-style O is more conducive to developing guys into NFL-caliber talent

Also, contrary to your claim about Keenan Davis, Campbell is well known for having promising young underclassmen earn their stripes first by getting down the fundamentals like blocking and route-running. Every indicator at Iowa now points to Davis likely seeing A LOT of reps as our #3 WR.

As Amara Darbouh will easily be able to note, Iowa's WR classes have been VERY thin up until the 2011 recruiting class. The coaches tried to nab around 4 guys in the '09 class, however, between some whiffs and Ngoumou not getting past the clearinghouse ... we only ended up landing 2 guys. By the time Darboh's TR FR season comes along, Keenan Davis will be a SR. Furthermore, between now and then, Iowa will also be losing A LOT of talent at WR in DJK, McNutt, Sandeman, and Chaney ... and that's not including a good number of talented and hard-working walk-ons. Thus, Iowa will definitely be in need of an infusion of guys who can come in and contribute.

Has anyone seen Darboh's offer list? .... I'm not liking Iowa's chances. Florida, Michigan, MSU, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Oregon & USC are in contact with him. I don't know if he is a Hawkeye fan, but I sure hope so; I want this kid in Iowa City.
