2012 Iowa Roster Notes: Two Deeps and Beyond

I'll be the first to admit this season will be a rocky one. I'm guessing anywhere from 6-8 wins. But it all sets up nicely for a Big 10 title run in 2013. We are set to only lose 4 starters on offense and 3 at most on defense. The big losses on O will be JVB, Davis and Ferentz. We also lose Tobin. If we can get a couple of WRs to step up along with solid play from Rudock our O should be in very good shape. By then we'll know a lot more about what we have a RB. The TE duo of CJF (6'7" 265) and Hamilton (6'5" 250) should absolutely terrify opposing defenses. On D, the 2013 Hawks might boast the best back 7 in the conference and one of the better ones in the country. We return 3 of our back 4 and all 3 starters at LB. More importantly we will return a lot of the depth that develops this year. We don't lose a LB from the 2 deeps. Hyde and his 3 years of starting will be off to the NFL and we lose Castillo, Sleeper and Donatell from the depth. But our back 7 will be just fine. Again in 2013 the big question is the D-Line. We might lose 2 starters, Gaglione and Bigach, but still haven't see what they can do in large doses. If a couple of our young guys can breakout this year we will still have quite a bit of depth next year on the D-Line.

A D-Line with guys like Alvis, Cooper, Davis, Hardy, Spears, McMinn, Johnson and Ekakitie should be a pretty darn good one.

Dom Alvis will be ready to roll at the start of the season. Hoping for a good/healthy season for him!

Who were Mitch King and Kroul?

I saw Morris and Solon Beef Days doing the bale toss. The guy is huge this year....a lot bigger than last year. I was critcal of him last year as he looked too slow. He really came on at the end of the year and especially in the bowl game. I'm going to assume it was teh ankle injury and he's going to have a BEAST year.

I saw kirskey and Hitch downtown last week....they do look smaller to me.

CJF thinks he is going pro after this year, so I hope he has a good one.

His knee will not be close to 100%. An ACL is a 12-18 month recovery period to get back to pre injury condition.

The knee can structurally be 100% and ready for football in as little as six months. It takes 12 mos minimim, and usually.closer to 18 to regain the strength and explosion you had prior to the injury.

ACLs have a 12-18 month recovery period end of story.

Not Alvis. Period. End of Story. That is the final word. The End.

Alvis is nowhere near 100%.

BTW, u think the NCAA will sanction PSU?

Duff, you are wrong. I have recovered from one myself, and that was 15 years ago. Also, how do you know he is nowhere near 100%? I'm sure he isn't 100% yet, but I'm guessing he is much closer than you think. Are you just trying to temper fans expectations? If you have some actual information then spill it.

Actually, you aren't too far off with this.

"BJ Lowery may prove to be Iowa’s best pure cornerback of the Ferentz era"

Chalk this up to 'that would be great if you are right,' but where is this coming from? He has barely been on the field. It could be that he in fact has great potential, etc., etc., but these observations are based on his game film, team sources?

Honest question b/c I've seen this said about him on more than one occassion.

Greenway tore his ACL in spring practice in March, and was playing in October when he was a redshirt frosh. He looked as good as ever in 6 months....not an exact science.

How do you know he looked as good as ever if he had never played before?

the last play of the game against Michigan, lowery was all over that dude like stink on sh!t. the route and throw were perfect and he still made the play. replay showed that he got there a split second to soon but if Hyde had the coverage he would have been 2 steps behind. lowery definitely has legit cover skills
