Iowa's overall defensive scheme has worked very well except for giving up too many third and long conversions. An earlier post mentioned how the players look like they are scrimmaging. This year yes, Norm's first few years the hawks were headhunting players like northwestern receivers crossing over the middle. The defense looked really fired up in 2008 and 2009 but a little less so last year and really down this year. At almost 70 years of age with serious health issues perhaps Norm needs to look at retiring. Then Kirk should hire the best d-coordinator he can find that fits with him. Hiring from within if they are not the best that can be hired is stupid.
