2 capable running backs and OLine came to life; mostly really good defense

Phil's stubbornness and complete inability to adjust to playmaking wide receivers has been the most head scratching aspect of this season to me. That stubbornness reared its ugly head against Purdue, again, just like every year. The other poor points are par for the course, nobody expects a world beating offense here, though it would be a pleasant surprise.
Yes, and teams were much more successful generally in the 1st halves vs Iowa than the 2nd halves because Phil keeps things very vanilla the first 2 quarters so the offense can't adjust to anything at halftime. Then in the 2nd half he brings various pressures. Problem is, offenses know exactly what Iowa's defense is going to do every play of the 1st quarter, so they're able to march down the field repeatedly. This puts the team in a hole, which is a big deal given Iowa's offensive limitations. He really needs to mix up the pressures more at the start of games. And needs to do some serious self-scouting in the coming months -- this stuff isn't rocket science.
