1st play from scrimmage?

It depends on which is the short side of the field, had the short side been on the left, the first down play would have been off left tackle. So now we are up to 3rd down, I will go with Draw for $200 Josh.

Bingo. QB counts the defense, sees more guys on the wide side of the field (duh), audibles into a run to the short side.... pile up for no gain.

How...many...times...

Ferentz over rules Davis' 5yd out with a 10yd comeback and CJ punts the ball for a 23yd net.

Kirk says, to himself, how hard coaching is and rewards himself with an extra piece of bubble gum.

The Gator fans do that stupid 'Chop' cheer and Kirk busts out crying because he thinks they're saying 'CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP'!

THE END

the first 25 plays will consist of 17 runs and 8 passes. However 2 of the passes will be on 1st down thus setting up 3rd and longs.

KF opens it up on the first offensive play. Off tackle to the short side of the field. He might try something wild on defense and not blitz.
Daniels and Wadley with the occasional timely pass is what Kirk will stick with.

I have changed my mind. Statue of liberty play to start the game.

Stretch outside zone to the right. Doesn't matter the back. I'm ok with it. Stick to the plan. Eat up clock, complete a 3rd down pass at times. Punt. Field position. Good defense. Good return game. Better field position. Commit to run. Complete 3rd down here or there. Punt. Good defense. Good return. Run. Complete a 3rd down pass. Field goal.

Complain. Discuss. If it keeps us in the game vs a team with an excellent D and struggling offense, it makes perfect sense. There's no magic play calling. Try an occasional deep throw or screen. Hope. Punt. Play good defense. Continue if in the game. Deviate if down 2 scores in the 2nd half.

Repeat of the Outback bowl against S. Carolina. A lot of downhill running, flawless execution, Iowa goes up 7-0 and Florida spends the rest of the game chasing points.

Trivia: how many games has Iowa started this season with a Daniels run?

9 out of 12. Those 9 carries yielded 70 yards, for an average of 7.8 yards per carry. Long of 28, short of 0, median of 7 (only 2 out of those 9 went for fewer than 5 yards).

The other 3 games: inc pass, drop-back and scramble (3 yds), Wadley carry for -2 yds. Average of 0.33 yds per play.

I have looked at run/pass on first play for other seasons, and it is usually about 50/50 for Iowa. I was surprised that they were so much more run heavy on Play 1 this year, but when you look at the success they had, it makes sense. No if they can just repeat that on plays 2-70, we should be in great shape.

^^^^^^^CP87 did the homework on this. I think the answer is kinda obvious.

I would love to see a trick play.
How about a hook and ladder?
McCarron with a 10 yard reception. Flips it o Wadley, who runs 65 yards for a TD.

Then we settle in and run the ball off tackle to the weak side the rest of the day. But the faithful will always remember that one play.
The KF apologists will say "KF IS imaginative."
The KF haters will say "Why dont we do that more?"

And we only have 10 more years to go.

This year Iowa has deferred to 2nd half most of the time.

Iowa will run outsize zone - Daniels - Left side.

Probably a 2 yard gain right up the middle.

What I would do, is play action slant pass to the guy in the slot. Hope to pick up 6 or 7. In fact I would go up tempo no huddle and do the first 3 plays short pass routes. I want CJ's head in the game and they will be keying on the RB anyway.

GO Hawks.

A judicious amount of tempo and blitzes will help us get Florida back on its heels.

Tunnel screen to the sideline followed by a bubble screen toward the middle of the field. Then, on 3rd and 12, we'll run spread, go-dig-go-go and hit the dig for 17 yards down field and get 12 YAC. He will be tackled by the punter, who jumps off the sidelines to make the tackle. The officials will call a palpably unfair act penalty and award a TOUCHDOWN IOWA!!! Book it!
