Kulick thought Martin was a Muslim, that's why all the bad blood between those too.
As nutty as Kulick is he did read Martin correctly. He wasn't a fan of him transfering to us day 1. Figured he wasn't a team first guy and just trying to be opportunistic. I was wrong and thought Martin would be a great fit and if he wasn't a top 3 guy this yr he most certainly would stick around for his senior year and be a key starter. He was right and I was wrong. Like way wrong... I'm not saying Kulick is the brightest bulb in the box either he's pretty darn out there and a blind squirrel will find a nut now and then...

Kulick has mental problems; I don't know if it's just plain run-of-the mill stupidity, or if it's brain damage.

He's from Iowa, and being an Iowa football player and graduate can help get you along damn ways in life whether it's in the business world or just in general. Look at all the guys leaving the football program who have been successful in real estate, banking, and medical sales. It's unbelievable. Iowa guys have tons of connections in those fields and it's why they continue in a whole lot of cases to go that direction. It wouldn't have taken squat for Kulick to get hooked up with a decent job in sales or finance regardless of what his degree is. Hell even Pat Angerer is doing mortgages.

Hmm... slide into a $100K job for a few years, save enough money to buy some apartments or maybe a business, and then pay other people to make my money for the rest of my life?

Nah, I think I'll go the route of being an unemployed douche rocket spouting off about politics and race on twitter, alienating every single connection with prospective employers and alumni/coaches. That'll help my life...

Maybe he was born dumb. That's a real possibility.

I've only heard Kulick speak a few times on some of the WUW pods I've listened to. I dunno to what extent he's trying to put a schtick out there or what. But yeah he's not taking the MJ tactic of Republicans buy shoes too way of doing things... How much of that is him or how much of it is just trying to be a contrarian to the current cancel culture I have no idea. But regardless it won't help him that's for sure.

Timing is a funny thing because Lebron James has obviously put himself out there and he's all in down that one way street. But he's like over 15 yrs in the NBA and is worth a billion bucks or so I dunno. Would the 18 yr old Lebron be doing all this? 20 yr old? hell 25 yr old Lebron? I highly highly doubt it he'd have been way more apt to take the Jordan way. But now that he is where he is he don't care. He'll continue to make more then he'll ever spend regardless of how many folks stop watching/caring/spending $ on stuff he endorses because he's got a large enough base to keep the $ flow going. He can take a bit of a hit and not care

One of the lightest lines I can remember in recent memory. Only one starter over 300? Boys need to eat. I think Cronk ends up somewhere in the starting lineup. This depth chart could just be a nod to returning players have the initial place on the chart.

The chart that comes out in two weeks is the real one, we'll see what's what at that time.

One thing we don't know and probably never will is who has had the Covid and how much did it set them back?

Until another depth chart comes out this is the real one.

That's like saying when the Week 4 depth chart comes out, "The week 5 chart is the real one, we'll see what's what at that time."

I don't think they do this. It's made pretty clear that there's never an ounce of "seniority" when it comes to Iowa football. Ferentz Inc. couldn't care less what players think about their depth chart spot and they sure as hell don't care what the public thinks about it. Epenesa ended his three year career with 26.5 sacks and played every game of his sophomore and junior years, was he ever listed as a starter on the depth chart? If he was it wasn't very often.

The below does not read like a second team right tackle.

(I copied this from a Hawkfanatic article but it comes from the coaches talking on Thursday.)

Cronk Time
: It’s not often Iowa has an offensive lineman join the program with 40 Big Ten starts under his belt.

Indiana graduate transfer Coy Cronk is doing just that.

The Lafayette, Ind., native joined Iowa during the spring semester and has quickly made his impact felt, according to offensive line coach Tim Polasek.

“This guy from a character standpoint, you’d think he was a sophomore trying to break through,” Polasek said. “That’s how coachable he is. I really appreciate that. I think he’s eager for football in general. I really appreciate his approach daily. He’s trying to do it our way, the technique and the system. He’s not a guy I have to worry about, OK, he’s just going to revert back to however he was coached before.”

The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Cronk was named to the Outland Trophy preseason watch list in 2019 and 2020.

It sounds like the fullback position is in good shape.

Pot-A-Bomb: Hawkeye fans may see an unfamiliar face make in impact in the backfield this season.

Iowa coaches spoke highly of sophomore walk-on fullback Monte Pottebaum on Thursday.

“Monte is a very special player at his position,” running backs coach Derrick Foster said. “He allows us to do multiple things. Monte can run the football, he can catch, he’s a versatile kid. He’s a very big kid, he’s got a nice size, long arms, big hands. He competes very well.

“I’ve been seeing him day in and day out come in the building and then going to practice and compete, he shows up on film. And I think that allows us as an offense to do some different things with him that we probably wouldn’t have in the past at that position.”

The 6-foot-1, 244-pound Pottebaum nearly ended up at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D., a short drive from his hometown of Larchwood.

But Pottebaum ended up at Iowa, with fellow West Lyon High School graduate, and Iowa specials teams coordinator, LeVar Woods.

“The coach at Augustana is not a fan of mine,” Woods said. “I think he was going to go there to play linebacker and they had really high hopes for him. We stole him, we got him to come here. I’m really happy he’s here. You look at some of the things that he’s able to do, not only the fullback position, but from a special teams standpoint I think he looks to add to be a core contributor for us.”

Just another great find out of NW Iowa, hotbed for the Hawkeyes!

Yeah, it doesn’t get much more NW Iowa than Larchwood.

Thats a solid 90 minutes west of Boji. Larchwood is probably closer to Fargo, North Dakota than it is to Des Moines.

It's like Washington Island in Wisconsin's Door County. People think Green Bay is way up in northeast Wisconsin. Washington Island is another 100 miles past Green Bay.

Well said. Damn...I'm finding more and more common ground with you dude. I would have never thought that. I've never seen a shrink before, I'm wondering if this may be a good time for that.

West Lyon HS has been very, very good to the Hawkeyes, that's for sure. Was Levar the first from there or was there someone earlier. I do remember Levar had a HS teammate that almost went to Iowa but flipped Nebraska, became an all American and played a few years in the NFL but I forget his name, I tent to do that with flippers.

And, I've been to Washington Island, it is way up there, and it is a nice place to visit.

Grew up in Rock Rapids. Became Central Lyon way back, followed by West Lyon. Yup. Very rural. RR is 14 miles from the SD border and 6 miles from MN. I still have some nice farm land near RR. My folks had a cottage on Lake Okoboji, so I spent most summers there when the kids were young. Cottage is Long gone now. Likely could not even afford the property taxes.

And LaCrosse, viewed as “up North” is right across the river from Iowa’s northern border.

You’re way overstating West Lyon being very, very good to Iowa. The only two WL guys that ever saw actual time are Woods and Snyder, and Snyder was average at best (and was not well-liked by teammates at all). Groeneweg did some punt returning but that was it. Newborg never saw the field.

The Nebraska guy you’re talking about is Kyle Vanden Bosch, lol. I played football and baseball against him, Woods, and Naatjes (same class as VB and conference) and we attended a lot of the same camps. He never “flipped.” Iowa recruited him, but he was Nebraska all the way. He and I actually talked about this subject two years ago when he was a dealer at a charity casino night benefit for a young girl with medical issues in the area. I gave him shit about saying he should have gone to Iowa and I can tell you he wasn’t going anywhere besides Nebraska.

Brian Ferentz said in the press conference, if they were playing tomorrow, it would be Jackson and Cronk at the tackles, Linderbaum at center...and Banwart, Schott, Kallenberger, and Ince are all fighting it out for the two guard spots. My guess is that Kallenberger and Schott are the two starters, but Banwart, if healthy is going to get reps.

All those guys in the middle are close to 300.

Hey, Fry, rain on W Lyon's parade, will ya! And, they have Monte coming in this year and it sounds like he will contribute in a big way, at least on paper.

Thx for reminding me of VB's name. He was drafted by the Cardinals, where I live, and Woods was signed as a free agent. VB had two torn ACLs and never did much and I thought he was done. But he did go on and have a few good years somewhere else.

I went to an autograph session one year with my son and the players were sitting in alphabetic order so V and W were sitting next to each other. I thought, how cool two high school teammates sitting next to each other. I went to Levar and identified myself as a Hawk fan and we talked for a minute. VB was sitting there with a towel over his head and I told him he should have been a Hawkeye and his answer was 'I almost was'. Even though I'm not a Big Red fan at all I will say he did have a pretty good career in Lincoln.
