Just a heads up. BTN will air a show about the 1985 Hawkeyes on 10/26 (next saturday) Also, the 1985 game with Michigan (#1 vs #2) will be shown on BTN on 10/29 (Tuesday 7PM ET). That is a first. I have have only been able to find the final FG online. So it will be quite a treat to see that game in its entirety.

Two darkest days in Iowa football: The 1985 game in Columbus. It was pouring rain and Jim Zabel said the crowd noise caused the coffee cups in the press box to rattle. During that year there was a rule in place against crowd noise. The cantilevered stadium trapped noise and even Chuck Long's guards and tackles couldn't hear him. Long complained to the officials about it, but they didn't have the character or intelligence to enforce the rule. The loss costed Iowa the number one ranking. And then, of course Harmon was paid to fumble 5 times in the Rose Bowl. (Here, I'll hold the ball in the wrong hand and away from my body, and you knock it out, and then we'll all pretend it's a fumble.) The other dark day was the loss against Minnesota in 1960. Evy was number one. He said his team wasn't that good at first, but that they got better and better as the season went along. I thought that team just couldn't loose. I though they'd go undefeated, win Iowa's only across-the-board national championship, go to the Rose Bowl and win it also, since Evy never lost there. But Iowa played a tough Kansas team the prior week, was beat up and lost the big man in the line, Mark Manders. That really hurt Iowa's great running game.

Actually this game has been on the BTN once or twice before. Imo it is not shown enough. It was a great game with a huge buildup. I watched it on tv when they actually played it. It was one of the best of times thing. Everybody was proud to be a Hawkeye. I've watched the replay on the BTN and it still brings out the same feelings. I have to agree with what somebody said, the BTN likes to show Iowa only when they lose or the MSU game when McNutt caught the winning touchdown pass. Iowa has a proud history and has played a ton of great games. It's to bad the BTN refuses to air them. I guess when you dedicate 75% of air time to Ohio State you have to cut someone out.

They do. But, after ESPN Classic being the only network to show replays of the 1985 game against Michigan, chances are "rights" to it became available and the anniversary for that week promises slim pickings. And maybe even BTN is finally getting tired of the 2007 game against MSU.

Well, it is about time. The 1985 season may have been the most exciting season in Iowa football history:

1. Win against MSU in the last 31 seconds.
2. Win against #2 Michigan on the last play of the game.
3. 59-0 annihilation of ranked Illinois, in Chuck Long's greatest performance and maybe the greatest explosion in Iowa football history.
4. Gut-wrenching, 4th quarter drive to nip Purdue to take undisputed possession of first place in the Big Ten.
5. 7 TD passes by Chuck in a rout of NW in Evanston.

all of those games should be shown by BTN.

wow, I'd like to know the other 4

I know, I've been pretty fortunate to witness MANY great sports events and witness some very "special" games. Not listed are horse & auto races, tennis, golf & skiing championships, IA wrestling, many reg. season games, and various unaffiliated bowl games (by nature of living in Florida for 8 yrs).
I have NO particular order, but I have MY TOP 10 of what I have personally attended, (as I do for music concerts). Anyhow:

1) 1980 US Olympics Lake Placid --US vs Romania & US vs Czech. [Family vaca to visit relatives in upstate NY when I was a HS Sr]

2) 1996 Stanley Cup finals Game 4 in SoFlorida --Colorado Avs over Fla Panthers [got kicked out in 3rd period, only to sneak back in for 2nd and 3rd overtimes and see the Avs win 1-0, & see the Cup hoisted]!

3) 2001 Stanley Cup finals Game 6 in Meadowlands --Colo Avs over NJ Devils [road win tied series to draw game 7, won by Avs...also attended game 4 in NJ]

4) 1997 World Series Game 7 in SoFlorida -- Fla Marlins over Cleve Indians [lived in SoFla at time, game went several extra innings b4 Marlins clinched it, also attended Game 1]

5) 1998 Super Bowl XXXIII in SoFlorida --Broncos vs Tim Dwight & Falcons [game was not a close game, but it was the SB and a great event, and my team won...and a Hawk housed a KO]

6) 1987 AFC Championship Game in Denver -- Broncos vs Cleveland [1 yr removed from the drive; this game was "the fumble", Denver was lucky to win](runner-up for playoff games--1991 vs Houston, Denver won 26-24)

7) 1990 Final Four in Denver --semi final game UNLV v Ga tech [year Tarkanian's Rebels were on fiya, beat Duke in final game]

8) 2005 Capital One Bowl in Orlando -- Iowa v LSU [attended with some other fellow HNers "The Catch"]

9) 1981 Rose Bowl Iowa v Wash -- [poor showing by team, life changing showing by fans and bowl events]

10) 1985 #1 Iowa vs #2 Mich -- Kinnick [12-10, "The Kick"]

You asked...but thanks for letting me reflect! :D

Maybe ESPN Classic was where I saw the replay, I thought it was BTN. If it was ESPN I apologize. Whatever it's on it's great to see it again.

But doesn't ESPN hate Iowa too?

Note that they probably haven't shown the game since BTN came into existence. And again, TV rights being what they are, the game was originally shown on CBS, so who knows just who "owns" it now.

When I watched it on ESPN Classic it was during the days of the love-fest they had with us in the early 2000s.
