fast fwd to 3:45.

I figure the 2013 hawks should be at least as good as this team. If not I'm out.

Are Chuck Long and Ronnie Harmon returning? Do we have a coach that likes to step on the throat of an opponent when he's got them down?

Hayden would never admit it out loud...but that was a huge game for him. He felt he never got the respect he deserved at SMU or NTS... playing second fiddle to Texas and A&M. That's a big part of why he came to IOWA.

I knew a couple guys on the 1984 squad and they said that the whole team understood... how badly Hayden wanted that game. And the blowout... was just the payback he'd always wanted.

1984 was actually a disappointing season to many folks. The loss to PSU, getting beat pretty handily by OSU, and late-season losses to MSU and Minnesota had us going to Hawaii in an almost "must-win" game to get a decent bowl. And Hawaii definitely had us on the ropes through 2 1/2 quarters.

Chuck Long was in on that 2 point conversion against MSU that year. Ronnie H was injured late in the year too or else they would have probably had went to the rose bowl anyways.

What? The Hawkeyes lost to Minnesota (who had 4 total wins that year under Lou Holtz). I thought good Iowa teams didn't lose to the Goofy Gophers. :)

What a bunch of great names. I miss those teams. Chuck Long is still my all-time favorite Hawk.
Larry Station. Always loved the picture in the Field House of his big stop.
