It's funny to watch those games without the current score on the screen. How did we survive all those years without that? :)

That was when all you heard during the game was somebody saying, "What's the score?" all the time.

And, there was no ticker at the bottom telling you all the latest baseball trades, Premier League scores, and what place Danica Patrick got in the last race. People actually got their sports news from magazines and newspapers.

I was watching with my 12 yr old daughter who plays. I made sure to point out the efficient passing. The offenses would pass 5-6 times before someone put the ball on the court, very different than today's

I would not know, I do not remember watching any basketball in those days. When I got to watch TV on my parents brand new color Zenith TV Captain Kangaroo was my preferred show to watch.

I wasnt even a thought in my parents mind when this game was played.

4 and a half years before I was born.

I do appreciate the effective mid range game from replays of this era. It truly is a lost art.

Yep. It's weird to watch a game without the 3 point line now. Then, it was just get the best shot possible.

When the 30 for 30 was on Sunday about NC State in 1983, you forget that teams would have a lead with 3-4 minutes to go and try to stall the rest of the game. Different time, different game. :)

Back then having a good center meant everything, the only time you shot the ball on the perimeter was if you were wide open and with no shot clock you could run multiple plays until you got someone wide open.

The game has evolved, in the early days they used to do a jump ball at half court after every made basket.

ronnie lester would have been even better in today's college game with all the high ball screens

off-season argument that can't be settled question: would bird's vision, hands, and basketball mind be enough to overcome his lack of quickness and leaping in today's nba? would he be an all-star, let alone an mvp?

make no mistake, he was my 80s hero, but the thought of him guarding lebron makes me wince

why would he have to guard lebron? and who do you think of trying to guard lebron that doesn't make you wince? who do you picture guarding jordan that didn't make you wince?

bird could play then, bird could play now. one could argue he would be better from behind the arc with all the penetrating point guards causing defenses to collapse into the lane. he could stand there all day and bury 3's

Interestingly, the scores from that era were equal to the scores today sans the 3-point line.

True, and without a shot clock. But I will argue the college game was much better back then. When I grew up it was unusual for a player to leave for the NBA early, now the best players leave after 1 season. This is why teams like Gonzaga & Butler are so successful because they recruit the players that are just good enough and they stick around all 4 years. In another thread someone mentioned how Kentucky is signing a recruiting class better than Michigans Fab 5, but I doubt that class sticks around more than 1 season like Chris Webber and Jalen Rose did at Michigan.
