15 Commits before the end of June?????

This is obviously unheard of for Iowa..the most commits Iowa has had before the end of June prior to this year was 7 in 2010.

I am not certain of the primary factor for all of this, but I keep reminding myself that these are kids Iowa has offered based on either junior film or camp evals or both. In other words, these are kids Iowa has targeted...not fallbacks.

Three from Ohio (Brian Ferentz territory), two from Iowa, Indiana, Missouri and Illinois. One from Texas, Minnesota, Nebraska and Michigan.

All across the board, and that is fun stuff.

I'm beginning to think that the reasoning here is multi-faceted.

First and foremost KF&co. like what they see out of these JR's and do not need their SR film.

Second, the recent push towards beginning the recruiting cycle in college football has not fallen on deaf ears in Iowa City. Thus Kirk is more able to adapt and less set in his ways than some would have us believe.

Third, the staff he has around him allows for this. Young blood, new energy. That energy will permeate throughout the program and manifest itself on the field. Sooner rather than later.

Finally, Kirk has the right people around him going forward. That is not to say that the recent staff departures were not the right people, they were perfect 2000 people not 2015 people. Now he has the right staff to react to new trends.

IMO its only onward and upward from here for Iowa Hawkeye Football, the recent changes will result in more wins on the field.

Who are you guys most excited about out of the 15 recruits. I love all this supposed 4.4 speed coming in to Iowa City. Keep the running backs and D lineman coming! Cant have enough of them on the roster..

the ol - sean walsh, or whatever his name is mentioned a 'time line'. not sure if that is something new, or something that has been done all along. anyway, he mentioned that they'd offer someone else unless he committed by a certain date.

Wow check out the promo video of Solomon Warfield on Youtube. Kid is a hard hitter! After Doyle puts 15 pounds on him watch out!

I think it's some Texas strategy from Coach Davis. Maybe there is more to it than we think abut UT filling up fast.

Just watched it. Holy crapnuggets. Granted its only a few plays, but his closing speed is crazy! Not to mention the blatant disregard to blow a fool up!

Regarding players who get labeled as "fallback recruits": I wonder how their careers have played out at Iowa under Ferentz? I cannot recall all 12-13 of the "last guy to commit" list over the last 12-13 years of recruiting classes, but I do recall Brandon Meyers and Tanner Miller. Last has not always meant least, has it?

15 commits and counting before the end of June, with Dan Monteroso still on the table before the end of the month. Plus, two other players (that we know about) have tried to commit and been turned down by the coaches. The benefits here are three-fold. First, Iowa can put a serious full-court press on the cream of the crop guys that are still on the board. Second, the coaches can be more discerning about who they offer from here out. Third, they can get a head-start on the 2014 class.

I think it was said if the slot was his until a certain date. AFter that, it would be first committed, first accepted.

I dont recall Iowa using that strategy before. Usually KF has encouraged kids to take their time and be sure. Or more often it was first come, first served with no set deadlines. Whether change was from Davis, Brian or Kirk himself, we are definitely seeing earlier results.

don't dismiss the snowball effect. these recruits knowo iowa has only so many spots this season. as they see others taking offers they have to jump on before their spot is gone. action begets aaction.

There's absolutely nothing negative that can be said about these recruiting developments, although I'm sure someone will try to come up with something. Let me guess... someone will start a thread titled "Are we wasting scholarships on 3rd tier guys?". Some people never cease to amaze me with their negative outlook on all things.

I know there isn't any concrete evidence, but I think these recruiting results are directly related to the new staff. Clearly Brian Ferentz has a knack for this kind of thing. I can't think of a better person to go into a kids home. Who knows the head coach better than his own son? Not to mention the fact that he worked his way up the ladder very quickly at what is probably the most elite NFL franchise (Patriots). If Brian can get results out of his players on the field as well as he seems to be recruiting then I think we got a steal for an offensive line coach.

I think it's a combination of:

1. Exciting, younger recruiting staff hitting the trail hard, raising enthusiasm, and learning some new methods

2. A weaker midwest recruiting class overall has made the middle recruits a wider, less recruited pool this early.

3. Iowa is getting their first recruits this year because they aren't overreaching early. Instead targeting a solid class. Overreaching after a couple middling seasons likely wouldn't work.

The only thing I would add to this list is the fact that GA David Raih is focusing on coaching TEs and allowing Eric Johnson to focus on just being a recruiting coordinator. I think that was a great staffing change.

BUT WE"RE JUST IOWA - WE CAN'T GET RECRUITS TO COME TO IOWA. THEY ONLY WANT THE BEACH AND PALM TREES.

I don't know about all you ********, but when I went for my campus visit to Iowa City, it took me about 10 minutes to say, yes this is where I am spending the next four and a half years.
