10 Years Ago Today

This was a very fun game to watch. Certainly not a good Ohio St team but I'm glad Iowa got their licks in because beating Ohio St rarely happens. Interesting note: Iowa beat up on Ohio State's starting QB and Troy Smith came in and never looked back.

My God, where has the time gone? I remember staying in the stadium until they turned the scoreboard off. That was before folks (at least me anyway) had decent cell phone cameras and I couldn't take a pic of the scoreboard so I had to stare at it to burn it into my memory forever. What a game.

I remember I had to go to a wedding that day. I listened to the majority of the game on the radio on the way to the game. Fortunately for me, the Hawks had it well in hand by the 5:30 start time of the wedding. Drew Tate had a pretty darn good day.

Did you know that Purdue was a top 5 team that weekend? The neck beard lost to #10 Wisconsin 20-17. It's amazing how things change in 10 years.

I live in Florida (and did at the time as well) and my buddy from work (who is an OSU fan) came over to my place to watch the game. Needless to say, I enjoyed the game a lot more than he did.

Wasn't that the weekend that Purdue football died? They fumbled and lost to Wisconsin in some obscure manner and they've stunk ever since. I remember Orton was out for the game against Iowa and we eked out a W. I knew Greenway was good, but when Purdue came to town they had some absolute stud WR named Stubblefield who Tiller always put in the slot. Of course, Norm didn't like to deviate from his base 4-3, which left Greenway on that kid. I thought for sure we were gonna get toasted, but Greenway ran with that dude stride for stride almost every time they were matched up and from then on, I knew Greenway was one of the best defensive players to ever don the black and old gold.

My dad came over from Omaha for the game. He skipped going to the game to stay at my place and watch Nebraska. One of the saddest days ever, seeing the man who raised me as a Hawk fan turn into a monster before my eyes.

I was there and it was beautiful to see the group of buckeye fans, all in red, set quietly throughout the game. Didn't hear a peep out of them

I was present, and loved every minute of it. The Hawks let 2 more wins (09, 10, sorry, just never felt they could hold on and win last year) vs. the Bucks slip away since then, but they have to be at their best for the full game to beat OSU, not most of the game.

I remember going to that game and as we were getting ready to enter the stadium, an older buckeye fan was stumbling towards us as he struggled to breathe. He had forgotten his oxygen tank at his RV and walked all the way to the stadium entrance. We went and got some medical guys to come and help and the guy ended up refusing medical attention and huffed it back to his RV with the help of his wife. It's was kind of a scary situation at first. Then Iowa beat Ohio State. And I'll never forget that day.

I respect that. The intervention of medical personnel could have caused him to miss the game. Perhaps given the outcome, he would have been better off. No doubt a true fan, who wouldn't be denied.

Say it isn't so. Blasphemy. Is OK4P senior still here in Omaha?

He is. Worst part is this. The only times in the past 5 years he has visited me are:

1) 2012 Nebraska-Northwestern game

2) This Saturday for 2014 Nebraska-Northwestern game

He also owns no Iowa gear anymore. Claims he "can't find any in Omaha." It is absolutely disgusting. The guy was the biggest Hawk fan ever and once he started drinking the Kool-Aid in Omaha, bam, done. I mean, sure I go to Northwestern games, but I just liek to get trashed in the parking lot and watch football and I will never consider myself anything more than a casual supporter of Northwestern, certainly never a fan of them to the detriment of the Hawks (barring, of course, a Jerry Sandusky type scandal that makes me wish I had no affiliation with Iowa).

Was on my honeymoon in Negril Jamacia and they actually pulled the TV out onto the beach and found the game on a feed from Tennesse. Some ISU fans from Ankeny were there on vacation and were ****** because my wife and I appeared to be getting special treatment. Typical little brother syndrome even out of the country.

Hmm, you had a reason to be there, but vacationing in Negril in October from Ankeny seems a little suspect. They must have been too poor to afford the trip during peak season there, which coincides with the really bad part of winter up north.

Ten years? Dang. I remember that game like yesterday. It was back when the ABC regional games were not national broadcasts. In Kansas City it wasn't on our station so I had to go to Minski's Pizza and watch it. It's not a big place so I shared a table with a married couple..the wife was an Iowa fan who was a cheerleader for Iowa in the 80's and her husband had an Iowa shirt on because he was whipped but was actually a Nebraska fan and was listening to the Nebraska game on his headphones. I remember that there were a large group of OSU fans there and they went home very early. :D

Wife and I got to sit in the press box next door to Gary and Dolph courtesy of Learfield for this one. I stayed until they shut off the lights and nearly wept for joy. One of my best Kinnick memories.

For all the flack that Sam Brownlee took, he actually played very well in this game. I don't remember that. All I can remember from this game is thinking that Drew Tate was going to be the greatest QB in Iowa History. The guy was unbelievable in this game and that team had already given up 17 sacks in 5 games. If it was anyone other than him, it probably would have been 30 by then. Hell in the OSU game, he made guys miss on half of the pass attempts.

Drew Tate was a Sophomore first year starter and he played like a senior that year. It's a shame he didn't have 2008 or 2009 talent around him in 2005 and 2006.
