10 Man Rotation?

A lot of coaches say they are going 10-11 deep, Fran has mentioned he's going 10.

Last night, they went basically 6. Maybe 7.
Marble, Gesell, White, Basabe, May, McCabe had over 20 min. Woody was 7th in minutes with just 13.

Another note, even though McCabe and Woodbury are starting, Basabe and May are averaging more minutes per game.

Clearly they are going 10 deep and last night was no exception. I was surprised to see Olesani on the court last night in the 2nd half when the game was on the line, he only got a couple of minutes but the coaches are still working him in every game.

I am a bit concerned as to the decision to not redshirt Ingram as it appears he is only going to get garbage minutes.

Why waste a scholarship on Ingram for 5 years instead of 4? I would hope he would be recruited over at some point during his time here.

You need 5 guards in B1G play. Ingram is needed even if he plays sparingly.

This is exactly what I said before this game. Look at the second half vs. G-W, and when we needed to compete, he stopped with the feel good tee ball mentality and only put out the guys who could play.

I was expecting him to go a little deep in the first half last night because of the back-to-back situation.

I'm hoping that Woody will see more minutes as the season goes on. I feel like Iowa is a better team when he is on the floor. He does a lot of little things that end up making good things happen. He has great hands and is a very good passer.

I've been very impressed with Woodbury so far this year. He looks better than I expected. We'll see how much he grows his game before the B1G season.

McCabe would get more minutes if in almost every game he weren't in foul trouble...

The nice thing is we don't lose much this year like in years past when Fran is forced into rotation changes do to fouls. May could be the unsung hero of this years team.

The one guy deserving of lesser minutes is Oglesby.

Through the first 5 - 6 games I think it's fair to say that they're using a 9 man rotation. Oglesby and Clemmons are averaging 13 and 14 minutes respectively. I think Fran would like to use Gabe a little more but he hasn't really shown enough to warrant that much time. It's nice to have 9-10 guys worthy of putting on the court.

Last night was the first game I have seen. Depth is absolutely a strength of this team and we are def a better team with woody in game.

Triton - McCabe will be in foul trouble all year long, because he plays aggressive. I really like how he's stepped up so far this year.

He didn't do a ton last night but he is a factor whenever he is on the floor. I see him as a leader as a freshman.

I do not consider Ingram a "waste" of a scholarship. He is simply the odd man out right now and has a chance at developing into a real good player. That 5th year may have done Ingram a lot of good and at least given him a chance to be a starter as a 5th year senior.

This isn't little league, if Fran hasn't recruited over him by his fifth year it's a sign our program has stagnated.

Fran is going 10-11 deep: meaning he is playing 10-11 guys. That is not a 10 man rotation...you want 10 man rotation look at the Razorbacks under Nolan Richardson (years ago).

10-11 man rotation means there is a standard procedure for when players go in. This is sometimes true in the 1st half for the hawks. What I see Fran doing is using a 10 men to determine what 7 or 8 rotation he should use to win the game. So he is looking for who is having the best game and letting the game come to them.

I do not call what Fran is doing a 10 man rotation he gets 10 in and figures out who he needs to stick with and he is looking for 7-8 guys most nights.

But he did do a ton last night. It's those little things that go unnoticed or don't show up on the stat sheets that he does that impresses me most. How many rebounds did he keep alive with tipped balls? How many shots does he alter? These are the things that's going to make Iowa a better team. He gives his all every minute when he's out there. His footwork is outstanding at this point for a freshman 7 footer. Great touch with both the right and left hand. I think he's going to be an absolute force in 2 years. I'm very pleased with his play thus far.

everybody plays as needed, WKU is a short team, to match up Fran needed to go with a short lineup, thats why Gabe got the few minutes he did, as for Woody he got 12 minutes his minutes will go up as the year goes on. I hope he developes much like White did, but he will not be a big scorer this season but has the potential to be one.
McCabe was doing things on Defense like he always does but last night the Refs were busy calling blocking fouls

Ok, fievel.

Just when I'd thought I'd surely seen the stupidest post ever.

It's been 5 games for a guy who wasn't able to practice with the team in the summer, and came in a little out of shape because he had to stay home, and you're already so sure that he's worthless and will never amount anything.
