10:55 to :27 left in game - NEB scored on 16 of 17 possessions

They couldn't miss. Tally and Richardson just took over. They both hit some incredible shots. We on the other hand had plenty of very clean looks that wouldn't drop. That was the difference.

they also got plenty of easy buckets from horrendous on ball defense and inability to fight through on ball screens. How many times would white get isolated on spencer or richardson and then when (inevitably) he gets beat there was no one withing 8 feet to help?

There was definitely a fair amount of poor defense there. But there were also a lot of possessions where we would play great defense for LONG stretches of the shot clock, only to get beat at the end.

3 suggestions.1. don't play so much friggin zone and put your best defender on the guys who are lighting it up from 3 - 2. learn how to box out and come up with critical rebounds - 3. bench basabe - he has shown no desire to get better and he is not contributing anything when is in the game. peace out.

This. There were some really difficult shots that fell for them. Iowa actually forced some difficult shots later in the second half. It was the wide open looks from 3 for Richardson that actually was the difference. That was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I can't remember a basketball game I have seen where so a team played great defense for 30 seconds and then fell apart and game up an easy hoop.

Thought maybe it just felt like they couldn't miss. guess I was right. Gatens has to make some shots as a senior.

I thought our zone did a poor job of rotating and anticipating their ball movement.
Defenses should act, not react.

Correct. Everyone is screaming about the defense, but in the first half Tim McCormick was gushing about Iowa being the most improved defensive team in the league. That last ten minutes, Nebraska was defended ok,only to knock down an improbable shot at the shot clock buzzer. I did not see a lack of hustle, but the Hawks have to find a way to defensive rebound.

More of a perfect storm of a guy who makes 6 of 33 from the arc for the season just having an incredible nite with 6 of 7 from the arc. That was not on the scouting reports.

That is exactly what I thought. They would play great until about 5-7 seconds left on the shot clock and the crowd would get into it - and then the next thing I know they were shooting an uncontested floater/layup. What gives?

They did, however, make a TON of jumpshots in that stretch and got a few generous bounces at the FT line.

All in all, pretty horrible defense.

This affirms my belief that Nebraska is not capable of playing any better than they did last night. Sucks it happened against us and yes our defense was a part of that, but Nebraska was just in a zone. We get another crack at them at least.

We have a horrible basketball team. I like Doc, but I just don't know if the guy will ever get it done here. I think that we we lucky to get that W last night.

Combo of all. Poor defense, and just plain outstanding shooting. Not all of those shots were open, some were tough step back shots. I guess to me that is exactly what we are missing. Dev is ok at breaking down the defense, and Cartwright did it last year, but not this year yet. We simply don't have enought players capable of shaking a defender when a shot is really needed. Hopefully that is coming.
