This whole expansion/realignment this was fun at first, but it has gotten out of control. As a fan of college football I'm actually concerned a little about traditional matchups. Texas in the Big 10? Pac 10? Texas A&M & Oklahoma in the SEC and Okie State in the Pac-10? ISU and BYU future...

The Wake Forest coach Dino Gaudio went 61-31 in three seasons after taking over in a tough situation after the unfortunate passing of Skip Prosser. That and Wake made it to the NCAA Tournament this year and won a game. Tough luck...it will be interesting to see who lands that job.

Good marketing technique to fill Carver with "mad" or "crazy" passionate Hawkeye fans who are frenzied and hungry to will their team to victory--full throttle screaming at the top of their lungs.

No disrespect to the players of the Alford Era, but Steve alienated a lot of Hawkeye basketball fans through his arrogance, attitude, and mound of frustrating losses. Coach Lickliter came in and just inherited a situation he potentially wasn't prepared for and was unable to energize the fan...

We the fans will definitely have to do our part and support the new hire. Coach can't sell the program if the arena is empty. And from his standpoint, it isn't easy to operate under a constant cloud of negativity.

Matt Painter coached at Southern Illinois for one year and then left to be assistant coach at Purdue.

He has taken three different schools to the NCAA Tournament. That's impressive in itself. I'm trying to think of guys who have coached at MAAC schools and had success at "BCS" schools. Skip Prosser (Loyola) & Jim Valvano (Iona) come to mind.

We should throw our full support to Coach McCaffrey. He can't be successful at Iowa if we are giving up on him before he even arrives on campus. That, and it will be really hard to convince recruits to come to U of I to play in an empty arena. Give him a chance.
