How much of the lack of offense is poor QB play...

Right. As tepid as the offense was on Saturday, there were several plays where in past years an Iowa QB would have been sacked for a major loss (absolute drive killer for them), and Gronowski was able to avoid the loss and at times even turn it into positive yards. HUGE difference.

SI: This May Be the End for Several Coaching Greats

He often had time to read a book back there. I wonder what Petras might have looked like with that kind of protection.

    RIP George Raveling

It's amazing to think what might have been had he stuck around Iowa City. Everyone talks about what Davis did with Raveling's recruits, but what would George have done with his recruits? The big three were primed to take a big jump for their sophomore years. No doubt Davis gets credit for 86-87...

    RIP George Raveling

Or maybe Tom Davis could have been an assistant coach for Raveling, teaching the press. It's crazy to me that George Raveling coached Washington State starting in 1972, and lasted for 11 years in Pullman. Honest to god, he must have been one of about seven black people in town. I'd love to...

Mark Gronowski talks about disappointing first start,

I'll take his running, without a doubt. One of the disturbing elements, though, is contrast Gronowski's performance with Shaggy when he was forced into action last fall. The circumstances could not have been worse for him, and he put up anemic numbers too, but man, he LOOKED like a quarterback...

Kirk Moves Into Tie As Big Ten All-Time Winningest Coach

Won't Kirk break a record whether the Hawks win or lose Saturday? Lose and he breaks his own record as Big Ten's all-time losingest coach? (Just sayin'.)

    Owen Freeman

Freeman might want to think hard about redshirting. I don't know how all the details work in these financial agreements, but I'd assume he gets most of his money even if he has to sit out the year due to a lingering injury. Frees himself up to get paid for a 5th year...and he is the exact kind...

    Fresno State vs Kansas

Yeah, that's why I didn't mention his consultant gig. I don't think it is necessarily worse than a coach, but it is chance for a recently fired coach to catch his breathe and evaluate what he wants to do next. Sort of jumping on the treadmill for a year, stay involved with the game, evaluating...

    Fresno State vs Kansas

It's really a pretty incredible fall given that there were no legal, moral or NCAA issues involved. Before his 30th birthday, he was coaching arguably the greatest tight end tandem in NFL history, for perhaps the greatest football coach in history, in the Super Bowl. And before long, was the...

    Brandon Scherff Retires

I'd guess he made more NFL money than any other Hawkeye? Wirfs will pass him before too long. And maybe Kittle?

    Top 5 career 3 point % shooters

Dude, I think you are missing the all-time leader here...and probably #2 also. Somebody run a check on this. Iowa's had at least a couple guys over 40% for their careers...

    Noah Fant Released

Maybe for a little perspective, these are the only Iowa tight ends ever with more career receiving yards in the NFL. Dallas Clark, George Kittle and TJ Hockenson. That's it. Fant is fourth all time. (Although someone should check my math). He has 3,300 career receiving yards in 6 seasons...

    Noah Fant Released

Fant was drafted 20th (not top 5 or something) and has over 3000 career yards receiving and nearly 300 receptions in 6 seasons thus far. He is an NFL starter released due to his cap number. In the grand scheme of things, that's a pretty solid career so far.

    Gronowski

I'd say the one asterisk to that list is Vandenberg. His junior year, before GD showed up, he was at 59% completion, 3,000 yards, 25 TDs and only 7 INTs. That's damn good for a first year starter at Iowa. What would he have done with a second year starting under KOK? His numbers are pretty...

    Ben and the Recruiting

Made it to the second round and hung with an extremely athletic and talented Texas Tech, who had uber athletic and eventual national champ Florida on the ropes...down double digits with 5 or 6 minutes to go to the Final Four. I'm not sure Texas Tech loses to any other team besides Florida in...

    Ben and the Recruiting

I think people also have to rethink the typical circumstances around "Year 1" and having new pieces. There is so much roster turnover in college basketball these days. With six players who have played together multiple years and with the same coach, is it possible Iowa actually has more...

    Ben and the Recruiting

I'm at the point where I think it'll be a disappointing year if Iowa doesn't have one of it's better seasons of the past 25 years. This team is built to win, right now.

    Trey Thompson

I am a little skeptical of just how much Thompson will play this year. Of course this is based on never even watching a highlight of him, so take it with a grain of salt. But I think Folgueiras has one front court position locked down and don't imagine he'll come out a whole lot. Manyawu...

    Trey Thompson

There is a lot to unpack. One thing I find super interesting is that Iowa approached him about reclassifying. While I am not sure how I feel about this, you have to hand it to Ben. He is a creative guy and yet again is taking advantage of market inefficiencies. I don't know the details, but...
