    5 Iowa Football X-Factors in 2024

I'm cautiously optimistic. For the most part, if healthy, the pieces are there. Barnett and the offensive line will have no excuses this year, and, other than WR (where there are a lot of unknowns), the skill positions talent and depth are fairly solid. What will take time is the scheme...

    5 Iowa Football X-Factors in 2024

I tend to agree here. I do believe that Kirk restricts the offense to a degree with his overall philosophy, but the idea that he oversees the position in some kind of a tyrannical control-freak fashion has been way overblown. It makes for good message board fodder. As correctly pointed out...

I could see Derek Weiskopf carving out a role on ST as well.

    5 Iowa Football X-Factors in 2024

I forgot to mention in my post that I was glad to see Rob include Llewellyn amongst his five. I think he is a big break-out candidate this season. He doesn't get much press, but by the end of the season he may end up being one of Iowa's most impactful players if he stays healthy.

Maybe. Hard to say. Fatigue no doubt can factor in. As someone who's game was mostly behind the line back in the day, I can say there are times where you have to evaluate your mechanics to get back on track. Golf is a good analogy - even the best have to tweak their mechanics at times when they...

    5 Iowa Football X-Factors in 2024

Good write-up. McNamara obviously is the biggest X-factor this season (probably the biggest X-factor Iowa football has had coming into a season for many years...). I will say, even if Cade plays well, I hope the staff will find ways to get the back-ups more reps during the season compared to...

Knopfler doesn't get enough credit. Excellent guitarist that can blend all kinds of styles - blues, reggae, honkytonk, jazz. I'm still partial to their debut album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6YyZ2ODQMA&list=PL5LlGBkh2rZN-GLWBO4c6Bb3paqOAxHm7&index=7

Caitlin struggles with the threes when she flattens her arc. It's something I noticed early in her Iowa career, and her shot has been quite flat recently. It should be fairly easy to trace her makes versus misses on video. Hopefully, one of the team's analysts points it out to her. I'm sure...

    PROJECT 2025

To be fair and objective, lets look at the exact words here, and put it in the context of what at the time was a scientific community scrambling with ideas on how to best manage the virus during a nationwide panic (six weeks into the pandemic). Trump had invited William Bryan, undersecretary...

    PROJECT 2025

Not sure why I would dip my toes in this pond, but sadly threads such as this - as a microcosm - remind me of everything that is wrong with this country right now. People have passionately and stubbornly dug their heals in to such a degree, that the concept of meaningful discourse and well...

    O Line

Due to a number of factors, I have no doubt the offensive line will be better, even perhaps good. There's really no excuses this season except for adaptation to a new OC (which is legitimate). That said, they would have to be 2002-esque to convince me that Barnett is even an average coach. I...

This is exactly right. The injuries were not appreciably more than all programs have to deal with and he had more than enough time and bodies to demonstrate that he is an effective coach and failed miserably. He's extremely lucky that KF is loyal to a fault. Recruiting is never an exact...

    Monday Musings in Hawkeye Nation

The NBA and MLB both lost me around 10 years ago. It was kind of a gradual fade and I didn't really think about it until recently. In retrospect, I think the impetus was the frequent player movement. It may be "old school" to a degree, but I much prefer to follow a "team" over time and watch it...

Really good year for music. Quite a few of those songs are on my iPhone playlist. Never seen that format on YouTube before, and I noticed a name just above, "Tom W," which made me think it might be a personalized list.
