What do you think BF will break out on offense today?

The biggest problem with Iowa’s offense is Kirk’s hesitance (for whatever reason) to recruit and play a mobile quarterback. We’ve had our best years with athletic, mobile QB’s with an “it” factor. Banks, Tate, and Beathard were all phenomenal playmakers. Stanzi was less of a runner but had great...

Garrett Gate and What People Are Saying

Still, to this day, the most dangerous thing I’ve ever seen on a sporting field (or arena) is Roger Clemens hurling a jagged bat (a sharp spear essentially) at Mike Piazza from the mound as Piazza was making his way down the first base lane. I still can’t believe no repercussions came of that...

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

Still no specifics on what Iowa has won of significance? Waiting.

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

Sorry that I touched a nerve @deanvogs but I’m not calling anyone stupid or a moron. I’m still waiting to hear from you what you think Iowa has won of significance since 2010.

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

Ugh that’s such an ISU mindset. In reality Iowa has to win 3-4 games per year against B10 bottom feeders to make a bowl game. Not that hard to make a bowl game in this era and the Insight Bowl and even the Outback at this point are the equivalent of participation trophies. And it’s not like a...

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

It’s not that it “doesn’t count,” it’s that it’s overvalued and gives the impression that Iowa football has been better during the last decade than it has been in reality. It’s a statistical anomaly compared to the past 10 seasons and there’s recency bias in play.

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

You guys keep conflating the 2015 season, which was not a disaster, with the entire decade.

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

Yeah, and it was heartbreaking. Doesn’t change the result.

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

Signature accomplishment = a single B10 West title in an overall weak division. Disaster.

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

I’m not evaluating the 80s. Never commented on this decade of Iowa football in the context of Iowa football history. 2000-2010 is relevant because the success of that decade should have been continued through this decade (same coaching staff etc). Old seasons from the 1900s have zero to do with...

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

Placing way too much value on overall winning percentage. As has been stated, winning percentage is misleading because of the buy games against weak teams. No one can seriously dispute that while each game counts as “1” win or loss, they have different weight. Beating Wisconsin with the B10 West...

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

Everyone knows that the 2009 (‘10) Orange Bowl marked the end of an era, not the beginning. I’m clearly using that as the starting point for the analysis. Plus, I hate the argument that just because the game took place a few days into January makes it “part” of this decade. It was the ‘09 season...

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

Not necessarily a disaster, but at least meaningless and mediocre. The entire body of work from 2010-2019, without any conference championships or BCS wins, is a disaster.

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

My standard for success is reasonable. Any of the following would qualify the entire decade as “not a disaster” in my perspective: 1) A SINGLE B10 championship 2) 2-3 appearances in the championship game in Indy 3) A SINGLE “BCS” equivalent bowl victory 4) An overall better bowl record (Cap...

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

You guys are crazy. You know that’s not the argument and that’s a complete mischaracterization of what’s been said in this thread. No one’s saying national championship or bust or even B10 championship or bust every year. It’s a disaster that Iowa, in a WEAK division and NFL TALENT on its roster...

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

Not special because the regular season is insignificant compared to postseason/conference success. 12-0 is important because it gives you the opportunity to play for a conference championship and for a berth in the playoffs. No one cares about regular season success if it doesn’t result in a...

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

Depends on what happens for the rest of the year. 9-0 doesn’t mean shit unless Minny converts it into a B10 championship or “BCS” equivalent bowl victory. Teams are not remembered or revered for regular season accomplishments.

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

And? We came up short in Indianapolis. That erases the significance of winning in Ames, Madison, and Lincoln. You have to capitalize or the success is empty.

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

For the 1000th time the most significant accomplishment of that season was a weak division title. Sort of like winning the NL Central and crashing out in the divisional round of the MLB playoffs. While nice, nothing to write home about. Iowa fans overvalue 2015 to the nth degree.

Overall this decade has been a disaster for Iowa football

61% is a highly misleading statistic when you consider the wins against cupcake teams. Remove the cupcakes and it’s more like 50%.
