Brown: Some College Basketball Changes Not for the Better

I’m not going to get weepy eyed either. It’s the new reality. I’m just not going to enjoy college basketball as much. It’s by far my favorite sport. But it’s possible I could lose interest.

    CJ Fredrick

Guess I missed CJ entering the Portal. Where have I been?

After all the Portal Smoke clears

It seems unusual. But he’s definitely not riding coattails. He’s had success at both Drake and Minnesota and had plenty of options. He may have anxiety issues or something. Who knows. He seemed like a decent kid on the court.

Iowa's current recruiting ranking according to this site

I’m not being argumentative. What’s the (Iowa) historical basis for doing better than making the NCAA and getting a win virtually every year.

Filip Rebraca Conducts Virtual Visit with Iowa Basketball

If it influences his decision I don’t want him.

    Wiescamp staying or leaving?

I wasn’t suggesting those would be his stats. I’m saying with those stats he could be a 1st round pick next year...zero chance this year. My bad if it appeared otherwise.

    Expectations for Sandfort and Mulvey?

I think both will be competing for minutes all summer and fall with a shitload of other guys. Connor, CJ, Perkins, Keegan, Ulis, Toussaint and Patrick are playing...but how many minutes. There’s room for a couple more...Portal, Kris, The Brit or true freshmen.

    Grab your Cups

He’s getting a lot more attention from officials...getting away with less. Perkins seems like a guy that’s only getting racked once before he addresses it himself.

    Wiescamp staying or leaving?

We all know if he does come back it’s only for a year. Will he be focused/conflicted? Connor will be a 5th year senior...could play 2 more due to COVID. But the rest of the current roster plus our 2 freshmen will be together the next 3 to 4 years. I’m fine with the young guys starting to...

    Wiescamp staying or leaving?

I assume this is his plan. There’s no downside. And it’s why I’m not worried about him leaving. I’m guessing he will learn he’s not going to be drafted. He has to improve his handles. He has to make free throws. I don’t think he will be told to enter the draft or choose another career path...

    Wiescamp staying or leaving?

It’s totally up to Joe. I’m fine with whatever he decides. But he’s improved noticeably every year. There’s no reason to think he won’t continue to get better. He can definitely make more than incremental improvements in ball handling and free throw shooting.

Iowa's current recruiting ranking according to this site

I definitely want to advance farther in the NCAA and personally believe that’s coming sooner rather than later. But that’s not all that matters to me. I really enjoy top 6 conference seasons with 20+ wins. If I have to choose between a Sweet 16 every 3 or 4 years with a couple rebuilding...

    Wiescamp staying or leaving?

This year... 14.8 ppg 6.6 rpg FG 49.1% FT 67.7% 3 46.2% while POY gets all the attention. Next year... 19.5 ppg 7.7 rpg FG 55% FT 82% 3 46% while being other team’s primary focus. And develop average plus ball handling skills. IMO the 23 year old is probable 1st round...with guaranteed...

I had never heard of Smith from MI until this year. And he was a BT PG IMO...made them a lot better.

6’7” 40 plus percent from 3 (likely) Mid to upper eighties from the line Quick release Smart (at NW) He won’t make us better on D IMO. But what’s not to like from a shooting perspective. I’d be interested in your scenario. And who knows how many discussions and pitches are taking place...

Expectations for Next Season (best and worst)

I look forward to watching the youngsters show what they can do...Patrick, Keegan, Perkins, Ulis, Kris, the Brit and the 2 freshmen. These guys are young. So they could struggle. But I’m confident by the end of next season we will be very excited about the next 3 years.

Expectations for Next Season (best and worst)

JW is the obvious choice. Most see this potential in Keegan. My dark horse is a healthy CJ. If he’s healthy and hunts shots (with no team focus on feeding the POY) I think he’s poised for a big year. But he obviously has to be healthy.

Robbins to Vandy not a huge loss

It is a huge loss. He was by far the best 5 available IMO. But something about him is starting to feel off a bit.
