    Question for gamefilm

I don't have exact numbers but I can tell you most of Weisman's big carries(20+ yards) have been off that left side. I'd say around 80% of all the big runs he's had came from outside zone left. Bullock's TD against Northern Illinois came over that left side. If I had to guess I'd say ~45-50% of...

Tomorrow will tell us a lot about this team

Like so many of the other Iowa games this year I have no idea which Iowa team will show up. After CMU I thought we'd see a flat & deflated team against Minnesota. Iowa came out and laid 24 points on MN at the half. Iowa will need to get off to a good start to get some confidence on the road. If...

What’s ailing the Iowa passing game?

Game-planning and play-calling are an extremely delicate balance of matching up what you do well with what the defense will struggle to match. It's a game of probabilities and percentages and when you get predictable you are forcing your players into significantly lower % plays. On a given...

What’s ailing the Iowa passing game?

Throw aways account for the other 4.6% For the 2011 numbers I only had the total number of throwaways, so i removed them from equation. Not a perfect comparison but still valid. Edit: I removed the throw-aways from the 2012 numbers. It makes a more straight on comparison.

Keenan Davis Scouting Report - nepatriotsdraft.com

The guy who wrote that, James Christensen, has a pretty good handle on scouting. I agree with him that Davis may have his best football in front of him. Davis has some pretty impressive physical tools and has yet to really play up potential. While he definitely isn't going to be an early...

Read the end of last season JVB Hawk Stock Report...

I don't know how closely you watched last year but the drop off in QB decision making and overall production from last year has been irrefutable. Vandenberg lit up bad defenses last year. He lit up Purdue, Indiana, Northwestern, LA-Monroe, & Northwestern & had an absurdly high QB rating against...

Parker still keeps eye on Hawkeyes

I've talked to Norm a few times up in the box during halftime of games. He clearly misses coaching and when I talked some X&Os with him, his eyes lit up. He still knows exactly what's going on out on the field & has a great eye for detail. Hate that it was health issues that prevented him from...

Hawkeyes Gamefilm: Offensive Line vs Michigan St

Yeah I watched that play a couple of times and he probably could have felt that pressure and climbed the pocket. Gholston was pushing in on the other side of the pocket but there was still room. JVB had his eyes down-field and looked surprised Weisman got run over. Gave him the benefit of the...

    Penn St statistically

Watching him against NW he threw a bunch of risky passes that didn't end up getting picked. He's been tempting fate pretty often. He's a scrappy competitor but he's likely to struggle in Kinnick at night.

    Michigan State Defense: Scouting Report

Hah, I think Kirk sees the quick cut back on their zone plays as a kind of counter look. They will also occasionally to the opposite direction the FB goes out of the I form. The FB is often the guy who the MLB are is usually keying. A true counter or counter trey would be nice though.

    Michigan State Defense: Scouting Report

These defensive battles often turn into a contest of who blinks first. blink = a turnover, ST breakdown, or blown assignment resulting in a big play No matter how it turns this will be an interesting game to watch un-fold.

    Micha Hyde Draft Stock Plummeting

Similar: Size, ball skills, top-end speed, lack of hip fluidity to turn and run with upper tier NFL WRs Differences: Spievey was a more physical player and showed excellent functional playing strength. Spievey went at the top of the 3rd round and has been a starter at FS when healthy up in...

    Micha Hyde Draft Stock Plummeting

I've got no clue about the authors qualifications but anyone who had Hyde in the first 60 picks hadn't seen enough film of him and must have seen only highlights. I have never thought of him as more than a mid round(3rd-4th-5th) prospect. He's similar to Spievey but hasn't been quite as...

    O-Line Domination/Great BHGP Article

It's a "fold call" and as you said it is intended to counter the DTs alignment. Iowa makes a fair number of micro-adjustments throughout the game up front and it helps keeps the DL honest. Otherwise they'll shoot gaps on you all day long. Mixing in fold calls they risk totally opening up a gap...

Hawkeyes Gamefilm: Offensive Line vs Minnesota

Dead on. Those little mistakes you can get away with against a Minnesota level defense. I felt like MN's DL was actually fairly decent, probably middle of the B1G type unit. Michigan State's DL will definitely be a couple of notches better than MN's was, but what scares me more is MSU's...

    Hawkeyes: Phil Parker Presser

For a CB who plays any press coverage, you have to expect a fair amount of auto-adjust fades from your guy. As Parker eluded to though, you can disguise press by closing late, or make a habit of using press-bail to mess with their heads. Iowa's CBs on the outside have had issues getting their...

Hawkeyes Game Film: Vandenberg vs Minnesota

Based on the week to week numbers Iowa has tended to throw more to the right side than anywhere else. Normally they have a lot of success on the right side. Most right-handed QBs tend to be more accurate/consistent to their natural open side, the right. I wouldn't read to much into it from just...

    Defensive Scheme

Yeah it was Tanner Miller guarding the inside WR on the trips side in a 5 WR look. He was matched up with Aaron Horne who's short area quicks are impressive. Horne originally sat down about 3 yards into the end zone on a little sit route and Miller was in decent position at that point but had...

    Defensive Scheme

It's a more aggressive mix of what they did under Norm Parker. They seem to be tweaking the game plan each week and the mix of schemes has has been different each game. They've used a lot more man schemes than they ever did under Norm. Blitzing was much more common in games 1 and 2 than 3, but...
