No more Rose Bowls for a while please

This made me laugh, but I agree with the sentiment. I was disappointed with the offensive game plan yesterday. Iowa reminded me a little of the Georgia Tech team Iowa dominated in the Orange Bowl in 2009. Iowa had a month to prepare for that offense, and yet GT attempted to do what they had done...

Here we go again...the bowl system is a mess

It's hypocritical for the Chamber of Commerce of a bowl city to want to make money on a bowl game? I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Here we go again...the bowl system is a mess

I watch most of those games every year, but, you're obviously the sort of person who decides that, because they don't like something, nobody else is allowed to like it either so don't let me get in the way of your lame rant.

    Damn expensive roses. Holy smokes.

In the short term, this is price gouging. Jack the prices up and see if they sell. And they're selling. That tells me there is demand at these prices. I don't think there's enough demand to sell out the stadium at $1k apiece, which is why I think the prices will fall again. But honestly, price...

    Damn expensive roses. Holy smokes.

There's no conspiracy here. It's supply and demand, and if the University allotments are on hold, then there are not a lot of tickets out there right now relative to demand. This is going to be an expensive ticket. I feel for those who want to go but cannot afford to do so but it's Iowa fans...

Here we go again...the bowl system is a mess

Who cares if there is more football? I like football. I miss it when it's gone. Why is the existence of some lame bowl in December so personally offensive to the fragile OP? These aren't money makers for the schools. Most schools are on the hook for their ticket allotment and will lose money...

When as the last time you felt bummed about an Iowa loss in football?

I know. But does anybody really remember the first half of that game? I mean, getting trucked in the second half is basically the same thing as getting trucked overall. It wasn't a good showing for Iowa. Last night was.

When as the last time you felt bummed about an Iowa loss in football?

This isn't nearly as bad as that game for me. It stinks that Iowa was so close and had so many opportunities, but that fate is much better than an Orange Bowl where I waited 45 days to watch Iowa get utterly dominated. There was no silver lining that year.

    Wil see you in Pasadena

That doesn't matter, the Rose Bowl is always a sellout. I have no doubt half the state would be in Pasadena for the game, but TV matchups are what matter.

The conundrum -- and it's not on Kirk

No kidding. Can you even imagine the what-if's if Iowa had let them score? Not to mention the fact that Iowa got the long TD because MSU was loading the box. They aren't going to load the box with 0:30 seconds left in the game. I'm not saying Iowa couldn't have done anything but it's not like...

Is this the best Iowa team ever?

I think some of Kirk's previous 10 win+ teams were probably better, but also played in years where the best team in the country was substantially better than they were. I don't think this is a particularly great year for "elite" college football teams. There are many very good teams, but as of...

    Hayden Fry in Close Games

They are still a bad team, but they are infinitely better than they were in the 80's - 90's. It's not even close. Their win/loss is still bad but they don't get pounded like they used to.

    Hayden Fry in Close Games

To me, this is the number one reason why I hate most comparisons between Ferentz and Fry. While I think Ferentz deserves plenty of criticism for some of his choices in games against lesser opponents, Fry's lesser opponents were a lot "lesser" than Ferentz'. Conversely, the elite teams in Fry's...

Is it time to replace Doyle?

I'm sorry, but this post is rife with uninformed speculation. I'm not saying Chris Doyle is the greatest strength coach of all time, but there is no such thing as a strength program that can turn mediocre talents into great football players. I know that people loved to view guys like Bob Sanders...

    National Championship thread

This is the sad part. I think the big 10 is getting a lot better while Iowa is getting worse. Iowa has always been an ugly team but watching Oregon or OSU run something as simple as a swing pass compared to Iowa's version is enough evidence to demonstrate just how far The Hawks have fallen.
