White to the 4

Needs to happen. Playing him at the 3 leaves us exposed on the wing defensively and really slows our ability to dribble drive on O.

Wow this looks similar to things I have typed. Just be ready for herby to tell you he is 6'8 and long and that will make up for it...or that he gets steals so that means he is quick.

Yeah or that I'm ripping him by saying he should move to a new position.

5 -Woodbury, McCabe
4- White, Basabe
3- Marble, May
2- Clemmons, Marble
1 -Gessel, Ingram

Olesani plays only when both Woodbury and McCabe are in deep foul trouble.

dear franstheman,

despite your user name, you sure seem to know better than Fran. you should give him a call so he can get his act together. maybe he can put your bud Pat in, or find another BC somewhere.

sincerely,
everyone on HN

Gesell would play the 2 before clemmons. And ingram is a 2. Basabe would also play at the 5 and has been that is part of the reason he is the 6th man but gets more minutes than mccabe.

White could develop into a 3 but right now the way our offense runs he is better off at the 4. We can go big with him at the 3 but it isn't our best team right now.

Funny how stating an opinion makes all your panties go up in a collective bunch. If you think Aaron White is 100% ready for the 3 yet you don't know basketball.

Who said Aaron White is 100% ready for the 3? Last time I checked we've played SIX GAMES. How about let's give this maybe another 10 games or so? Not sure what you saw, but, I saw some very positive signs last night in the first half of White attacking the rim off the dribble. Did he do it all night? no. Does he need to be more aggressive? absolutely yes. Playing the 3 is not only a different skill set, but it's also a different mindset. For some reason I'm thinking Fran is very aware of what he's doing and has a solid pulse on the situation, unlike alot of us who want to pull the plug, jump off a cliff, make lineup changes, etc etc after 6 frickin games.

Are you ******* stupid? Obviously it's Fran's call. What the hell is the point of a message board but to share opinions on the team?

no really. i think you should stop posting until you get Fran on the phone and get him straightened out. we are counting on you!

I don't think McCaffrey is beyond scrutiny. He readily admitted he should have played Olaseni more last year, but didn't. Now in year 2, Olaseni still can't get on the floor, despite hearing how he was going to surprise fans with his improvement. If he can't get PT in the non conference, he won't be seeing the court come conference play. Without Olaseni blocking / influencing shots, I don't see how we get into transition, which is vital to this team scoring enough to win games. Half court offense is going to be challenge all season.

Check the BIG stats. We're second in the league in defensive FG % to date, which would suggest we've had plenty of opportunities to get out and run. Let's not forget we have a freshman point guard running the show. Be a little patient. If it were me I'd play Gabe more and let Woodbury sit and watch but that aint happening. Gabe gives us athleticism. Woodbury simply gives us a big body clogging up the middle.

Playing White at the three allows us to get our best five players (gessel, marble, white, mccabe, and basabe) on the floor. Its an effective lineup. White will continue to see min at both spots as he should.

That lineup is ineffective as there are only two people that aren't ball handling liabilities. The White at the 3-spot and the belief that is will give Iowa match-up advantages is a good idea in theory, but reality tells me otherwise and I haven't seen anything that tells me any different to this point of the season. Iowa needs better ball handling and quicker ball movement in the half-court to improve offensively. Moving White to the 4 where he was most effective last season makes any lineup make sense.

Think about this, White put up good numbers by hustling and playing hard, plus putting himself in good positions by understanding how to play. How much more effective can he be on the glass beside Woodbury and the attention he has to garner? Put Marble back to the 3 and put a shooter/ball handler on the floor, not named May.
This would put McCabe on the bench, not all bad, it also puts Olaseni down a peg in the order, the problem is Iowa needs Oglesby to hit shots to make that lineup its most effective. In the half-court, Iowa really needs to focus on the elbow jumper as Gesell, Marble, Oglesby and Basabe (surprisingly) can hit it effectively. Also, this would allow White to patrol the baseline where he gets to the rim and finishes with regularity.

Chad. You said it better than me but this is what I was trying to explain. I'd like to see Clemmons or Ingram start at the 2, tho just to try and get into an up-tempo rhythm. But you and I both understand that White is best when he is just floating around, moving without the ball, not really trying to create with the ball in his hands. He's also been a liability on defense and having him guard the 3 to start the game while McCabe who is not a good defensive post player starts at the 4 will expose us defensively against athletic teams.

Whit handles the ball just fine at the three. You don't need more than two ball handlers in a lineup.

That depends on who you're playing. If the other team has 3 quick guys with handles then Aaron is a mismatch that is not in our favor.

Agree with this.

What's up with your guys? (dammfinn, meatman)....feeling the need to slam somebody for making a discussion/opinion point?

Feel free to make an opinion sometime rather than lurking then slamming.
