You can qualify your silly "not a shot blocker period" statement all you want. We both know which side you buttered your bread.

Also, I lived on South Johnson. No "Chicagoland hotties" came back to South Johnson. Anyone who's been to that summit knows it only happened once you moved to a quiet little place on Bloomington or Davenport. At least that happened to me. In reality.

All jokes aside, Iowa blocked nearly 1/4th of UTPA's shots... which has them 5th in the nation in Block%.

Yeah, one game, bad opponent, But still
 




Minnesota blocked 10 in their opener...and their frontline is more proven across the board. I think they take this 'title' this year

Not a bad pick, but Minnesota is also going to average about 5 fewer defensive possessions than Iowa this year. That fact, coupled with the loss of Sampson, and the emergences of Olaseni and Woodbury, could make it tight. Plus, do you really trust Rodney Williams to average 1.4 again?

Woodbury and Olesani have not emerged. They are still very, very unproven commodities at the moment.
 


I think Iowa could win this title. We are the third tallest team on average in the Big Ten at 77.938 inches compared to 78.333 for Minnesota. It really comes down to Woodbury and Olaseni needing to come into their own in order for Iowa to have the most blocked shots. Basabe is our only proven shot blocker on the team. Marble, White and May have the ability but don't do it on a consistent basis. Minnesota has Mbakwe, Eliason and Rodney Williams (who is a stud btw) that are proven shot blockers. But the Hollins brothers are the only other players on that team that I can see getting a few blocks here and there. It will be interesting to look back at this halfway through the year and compare where we are at.

They have emerged to the extent that they are going to average more than 0.0 and 5.0 minutes per game, respectively.

Besides, they aren't unproven. Woodbury was a top-50 recruit and the MVP of the NBPA camp. Olaseni has received raves from his teammates and coaches and is clearly an insanely athletic guy. It's not like these are couple of homeless dudes off the street.

Not to mention that fact that you really don't have to "prove" 7' and 6'11".

They are unproven. High School accolades and practice hype equals diddley-squat once that ball goes up in the air. Neither of them has proved they are impact players on the college level, despite how tall they are, and I am not about to declare either a great defense stopper until they do it against a team with a pulse.

I hope they are both players, and I think one of them will prove to be soon, but I am not about to start hyping them for things they haven't done.

When did I call them impact players or defensive stoppers? I just said they've emerged. In Olaseni's case from almost nothing to a little something, and in Woodbury's case from absolutely nothing to anything.
