Iowa will lead the B10 in blocked shots

He hasn't played defense yet. That's something that is going to change this year. My point is hes long and athletic. We are a very big basketball team.

That is the weakest sauce Duff. He's been long and athletic the entire time he's played here...he hasn't blocked many shots, and he won't ever block many. Being tall or long doesn't make you a shot blocker. Having quick elevation and good timing makes you a good shot blocker.

If you all assued that a DuffMan mea culpa wouldn't be forthcoming re: Woodbury and shot blocking, then shame on you.

This prediction was as transparently poor as anything we've seen around here in a while. Woodbury has always shown quick feet, an aggressive nature, and exquisite feel for the game. Blocks will come to him even if he doesn't become a specialist. Hell, even Antonio Ramos fumbled over himself into 1 a game.

Why didn't he block many shots in high school? Because when teams play a school that has a 7'1" kid whose free time consists of saying 'no' to Thad Matta and Roy Williams, they shoot threes. Lots and lots of threes.

Well, maybe. But its hard to describe just how big this team is. We have four legitimate shot blockers in white, basabe, olesensi, and marble plus a legit seven footer who might be a little more capable in this department than I thought. Its going to help that we will be one of the most up tempo teams and will get more opportunities but still, this team will be much better defensively.

They will? Maybe? or won't? lol..

That last line is awesome!

Will be interesting to see..I will take Minnesota

First year

Wow, really going out on a limb there considering that Jeff Withey, Jared Sullinger, Tyler Zeller, Draymond Green and Meyers Leonard all averaged less than half a block per game as freshmen.

Talk to me when he's a junior. Adam's gonna block some shots.

True, but Woodbury was not blocking many shots when he was playing against high school competition. Perhaps he is getting coached on it or perhaps he will get more chances. But we will see.

Highschool just doesn't have much relevance as to how Woodbury will translate. AAu was a much better setting to judge him and he was rated a top 50 player.

For the most part Iowa highschool kids aren't going to try and challange a 7'1 player at the basket. College players will and he will block some of them.

Ive said all summer that the chatter about Woody being a project will look foolish by mid season. Hes not a physical beast but he and Mike are both very basketball smart. You can't win mvp of the top 100 players camp and be anything but a player.

Pass the tussen. I never said he wasn't going to develop into a shot blocker. Just said he won't be hos frosh year.

No, you said: "hes not a shot blocker period." When someone uses the colloquialism 'period', it implies to me that the speaker considers the topic closed. As if to say, "he wasn't a shot blocker yesterday, he's not a shot blocker today, and he's not going to be a shot blocker tomorrow."

So, either you're horrible at expressing yourself, I don't understand basic slang, or you're backtracking. So which is it? Is Adam Woodbury going to figure this whole shot blocking thing out or not, DuffMan? Or am I just bad at understanding English...period?

Look, in HS I had no game period. But when I came to college it changed. First I gained some confidence by picking up some chubbies at house parties (UT Pan Am), and once I turned 19 I started closing the deal with butter faces at the field house (ISU and other cup cakes next year). By the time I moved into the obligatory South Johnson **** hole I was pulling some Chicagoland hotties (Big Ten teams) on a regular basis.

I never meant to imply Woody will never block shots, only that everyone predicting 1+ bpg (and there were a lot) were the morans.
