Iowa will lead the B10 in blocked shots

Well, maybe. But its hard to describe just how big this team is. We have four legitimate shot blockers in white, basabe, olesensi, and marble plus a legit seven footer who might be a little more capable in this department than I thought. Its going to help that we will be one of the most up tempo teams and will get more opportunities but still, this team will be much better defensively.

Don't forget that Woodbury blocked 3 shots in the first game. He may not be a legit shot blocker but it was a nice surprise.

Agreed he's been much more active on defense than I thought he would be. I still don't think that translates into consistent blocked shots in the Big Ten but he will defend the goal.

You could be right DuffMan...I can also see Iowa getting more "help" blocks as well when an opponent gets caught only concentrating on the Hawk in front of him and gets swatted from somewhere else. Not to mention our young group of guards are good defenders as well.

True, but Woodbury was not blocking many shots when he was playing against high school competition. Perhaps he is getting coached on it or perhaps he will get more chances. But we will see.

That could be a combo of "no one had guys who wanted to shoot over him" and "Woody, for the love of all that is holy and good, STAY OUT OF FOUL TROUBLE!"...:D

In what freaking universe is Marble considered a "legitimate" shot blocker? He has 16 career blocks in 60+ career games. White is also far from a "legitimate" shot blocker, especially compared to Basabe.

The jury's out on Gabe.

UMMMM he's tall, brah. Pretty sure that's all it takes.

Hey it took Duff one game for him to completely reverse his opinion on Woodbury's shotblocking skills, pretty sure he's had more than enough time to make a decision on Gabe.

I think Duff's earlier comments about Woody is a reason why he left him out of his original post. Which is why I was so quick to point out Woody's blocked shots, I remember him making those comments.

Marbles a shot blocker for a two guard and is a very long on ball defender. Woody ain't a shot blocker, especially in the B10. The point that he might create some opportunities for help defenders to block shots is right on the money.

Woody will be create off ball blocks with his size. I don't see him averaging more than one block per game. Hes certainly more active on defense than I thought he would be. Not sure how that's totaly reversing course.

No he's not. If he were, he'd be averaging more than .25 blocks per game in his career.

He hasn't played defense yet. That's something that is going to change this year. My point is hes long and athletic. We are a very big basketball team.
