In this prediction thread make a guess with respect to one thing that will work this season and one thing that won't work as well as hoped.

Will: MG with majority of minutes at PG.

Won't: AW with majority of minutes at C.

I think people are missing the boat with AW....he isn't going to score a ton and look like a senior polished center....he is going to be a big body that other teams are going to have to deal with. MSU has 2 huge guys the middle and last year they dominated us, now AW will at least give them a big body to have to lean on for 20-25 mins a game and allow our other players to stay fresher.

If AW only averages 20 mins this year I'll be happy, 5 pts, 7-8 rbs....sign me up.

Will: Marble will be a top 5 scorer in the league.

Won't: Basabe sophomore slump bounceback (hope I am wrong)

Will: Eric May will have a better statistical season than either his Junior or Sophomore years.

Won't: No Iowa player will average over 15 points, 7 rebounds, or 30 minutes.

Will: Gesell already at PG- not exactly a big leap.
Won't: JO doesn't need to fill Gatens' shoes. They're doing quite well overseas. Besides, RDM is expected to do that.
Didn't say it was a big leap. Gesell will be a successful PG. Just playing the position doesn't mean he does it well. But I believe he will surprise.
RDM is not expected to be a spot up 3 pt shooter ala Matt Gatens.

Will: Transition offense.

Won't: Half-court defense against teams with an inside presence (although this will still be improved from last year).

[good topic for a thread, btw, Caar]

Will: Do alittle better than last year and help ease the pain of the football season.
Won't: Make the Tourny this year, NIT again.

I agree with this. I was hoping to see them go to Marble more in the half court offense because I believe he is our best option to make things happen.

Won't: No Iowa player will average over 15 points, 7 rebounds, or 30 minutes.

I sure hope someone on the team does at least one of those things otherwise it will be a long season.

Wills: Eric May will be third on the team in scoring. Basabe will become a force with shot blocking this season. White will flirt with averaging 10 rebounds.

Wonts: Olesani won't be a huge factor on either end. Our defense will be in the bottom third of the BoneG again.

Not if we have 5 guys averaging 10 points or more (possible for: Marble, Gessell, White, Oglesby, May, McCabe and Basabe) and 5 guys averaging 4 rebounds or more (possible for: White, McCabe, Woodbury, Basabe, Olaseni, May and Marble.

Last year, Wisconsin's team had no one who averaged more than 15 points or 7 rebounds, they went to the sweet 16. Baylor was close in all three categories and they went to the elite 8. Syracuse was one 32.4 minute guy away from this, and they were elite 8. It can happen, and Iowa is very much the type of team to whom it would.
