2012 Defense versus 2000 Defense

Can we finally put this one to bed? It isn't anywhere close. The job that Reese has done on the dline is monumental. These guys are starting to grow. We have three linebackers who can play in space and when healthy the back four are pretty damn good. Even Castillo, despite playing with a little too much cushion at time, played well.

I know MSU isn't a great offense, but they couldn't push this team around.

I'm impressed with the heart these guys play with.

Jon has posted this several times, that he thought this years defense would approach the level of the 2000 defense that was pourous to say the least. I know we still will face some pretty good offenses...but these guys are not giving up points. Take away the CMU game and they have been really freaking solid.

Yup. Missed the mark on this one. This group is much better than I thought they'd be. Still think some rough outings ahead, but on the whole, they will be better than I expected.

A lot of people missed the mark on this defense!!! I agree that we'll probably see this defense struggle at times but Phil Parker has impressed so far. Ferentz mentioned when he was promoted to DC that he had offers from BCS schools and chose to stay at Iowa. This Iowa fan is grateful for that!!!

Kudos to Reese and Phil. These guys have done a fantastic job. Greg Davis? Soup? Vandy? Keenan? Probably not.
