College Hoops Preview: 10 programs on the rise heading into ’12-’13 | CollegeBasketballTalk

From article:

Iowa: The Hawkeyes have only had two NCAA tournament appearances in the last decade, none since 2006. In fact, last year’s trip to the NIT was the first time the Hawkeyes advanced to a postseason tournament of any kind since 2006. But with Aaron White, Roy Devyn Marble and Melsahn Basabe all returning to a team that only loses two rotation players (yes, one was Matt Gatens, I know), the future for the Hawkeyes looks promising. And that’s before you factor in the addition of a very strong freshmen class, including top 100 recruit Mike Gesell and Adam Woodbury.

The byline on the author lists him as an editor of a website that hasn't been updated since April 25. Strange.

How is it overhyping? Are we not on the rise? Do you think we finish with a worse record than last year?

I wouldn't say anyone has overhyped anything. We have a bunch of returning players with a solid freshman class. How could you not think things are looking up?

Look at who's saying we're overhyped, Ghost likes to be contrarian on most things, and the other guy C.U.N.T. is a somewhat wannabe ghost who nevers adds anything of substance or humor. Probably the most useless poster on this board.

A bunch of long-suffering Hawk fans are afraid to hope for success for fear they'll be disappointed again.

I think it is possible, though unlikely. Also, I think what Cleesh and I are getting at is not over-hype in this article, but a general, over-arching sense of hype that will only increase this month and then come shattering down the second we lose to a team we shouldn't.

But, you have to admit, it is fun talking about hoops again!!!

Over-hype? I agree there has been a bit much to much hype over a recruit or two this year (namely Woodbury) however, the team itself deserves any / all attention and hype that it's getting. We have a very solid roster 1 thru 7 or 8, maybe even 9. We have a couple of real players that are potential stars (Marble and White). We have depth across the board at all positions. We have a solid coaching staff and, we have an incredibly passionate fan base that is ready to explode.

Tell me exactly what is wrong with that and where I'm wrong?

YOu prefer to act as if they are a Kirk coached team that is bound to fail. Ghosty you sucky troll. Now go search for a picture comeback.

Because most people, like yourself in the post I'm quoting, are comparing this Iowa team to previous Iowa teams, rather than the teams they will be facing. This team looks good compared to three years ago, but will probably finish as the 7th best team in the BoneG.

Who said I'm comparing this team to previous Iowa teams? I'm not quite sure where you're getting that from. I'm comparing this team to D1 basketball in general, and maybe more specifically to the BIG. 7th? I'm thinking a couple notches higher which when you're talking about one of the top 2-3 conferences in basketball, ain't all that bad. That in and of itself pretty much supports the excitement and "hype" that's going on nowadays about this team.

No one has mentioned us winning the B1G. They have simply stated that there is a lot of talent returning and new talent coming in. Even with as good as the B1G is we are still on the rise and we will be able to compete. And I'm not only referring to this article. No one is picking us for a monster run in the tourney. I don't think it's hype, I think it's truth.

When the preseason rankings come out, we will be either 7th or 8th. 5 teams in the BoneG will be in the top 25, and one will be on the outskirts. Iowa will not be one of them. We have a young team that has never played well on the road under Fran, and we'll be facing an early BoneG schedule of battle tested premier teams. While I am cautiously optimistic, I have serious fears this season's going sideways in mid-January, and the people puffing up their chests in October will be whining about it.

I'd much prefer to be under the radar than popping up on every crappy websites "teams on the rise" or "surprise teams" columns. Especially after losing our best player and more importantly our most competent defender.

Some people are forgetting to compare our conference schedule to the other teams in the big 10s conference schedule. We might be the 7th best team in the conference at best but it doesn't mean we can't finish higher then 7th because our schedule.
