McCaffery has Iowa poised for a jump





Sharp contrast from the article I read this morning regarding Iowa's football game this Saturday titled : Ferentz has Iowa poised to take a dump.
 




Clearly Iowa bb will be vastly improved. The question is, will it show in our record? The B1G will be an absolute meatgrinder this year. Time will tell.

Yah, hawkeye nation is like the moon when it comes to the basketball and football forums. When I come on over here to the basketball side I feel like I coming over from the dark side. There is a lot of hope and expectation on this side and justifiably so. Who would of thunk it four years ago. How many days until lunar liftoff (tip off)?

I don't think we'll be "vastly" improved, but we should have a better overall record, probably the same in the BoneG. We should not lose as many games to the Nabraska and Penn States next year.
 


I really want to be on the bubble this year. A March situation would be fantastic.

I think it's awesome team and they'll do better than just to be on bubble.Coaches around the league are giving us serious look.
There's no questions in my mind that this team will improves on last year team.
 




Better than the bubble would be fun but this team is going to have a lot of young players. I don't think they are ready to be really good...yet.

Unless we finish like 3rd in the BoneG (probably won't happen), or if ISU and UNI are really good and we beat them (possible), it will be difficult for Iowa to get into the tournament this year.

I think you might be the only person that I have seen not to believe there will be vast improvement.
There is a major upgrade in talent. Fran has stated he can now run like he wants to because of the bodies. That tells me he has yet to put together his vision. This is the first year you will start to see that vision come together.

I think what we can agree on is that this will be a fun year to watch Iowa BB.

I agree with the fact we will be improved, I disagree with the vastness of it. I don't think the talent upgrade is "major". You are confusing having a lot more players to toss on the court with a bunch of great players to toss on the court. We are not there yet. We have some good pieces, but they're still young and inexperienced, and half the teams in the BoneG are bringing in as much talent as we did.

The bubble has been REAAAAAAAALY bad the last two years. If that's the case again, a good non-con (possible because the non-conference sucks) and a .500 conference record would put us on the bubble and probably in easily.

We have an awful non-con. A good non-con isn't going to do jack for us. If UNI and ISU are bad this season, we'll have to win 13-14 games in the BoneG to make the tournament.
 


I think Iowa could be significantly better but not do any better in the Big Ten record-wise...that is how tough the Big Ten is going to be...best league in the country.

I am getting a sense that the worse the football team does, the better fans seem to think the bb team will be....not that simple. We lost our starting backcourt...two vets who started for two plus years together. Gatens will be especially hard to replace....20pts/game in his last 12 Big Ten games...with a shooting percentage from the arc over 55%....that was an incredible run by Matt.

That also means that we aren't going to catch anyone off guard this year. Not that we have a target on our backs yet, but everyone knows that we aren't an easy victory like we were 2-3 years ago. Iowa will need to be ready to play each and every game if it wants to improve on last year's record. And as Fran said in this article, the defense has to improve from what it was a year ago.

Agreed. And I think Fran will get this msg across to the players.

LOL, when's the last time a team won 10 games in the B10 and missed the NCAA tournament? Saying we have to win 13-14 is just ridiculous.
