Ok, they are at number 45 and it went to UCLA. Where does Iowa come in?

I'm guessing number 38, as they will point to our inexperience in the trenches on both sides of the ball, and the weakness at RB and the loss of McNutt.

Anyone else care to predict.

The over-arching narrative I got from that is while we won't be all that good, we should have a good record.

I don't know how I feel about that. Will others consider the season a success if we go 8-4, but our biggest win is against Purdue?

with all the hype cj is getting i see it going 1 of 2 ways...1) he lives up to it and leaves early or 2) he doesnt and people just rip into him like crazy on here.

he has the skills and i hope #1 happens but he has a lot to prove to live up to expectations. here is to hoping for cj to do it.

I hope it happens, he was starting to show what he could do at the end of the year. If he has a breakout year I see the offense being very good. The great thing is it seems like some of the young TEs could also be contributors this year as well like Hamilton and Krieger-Coble.

I think regardless of whether CJ has a great year or not KF will advise him to stay for his last year. I don't think a one year resume of solid performance would be enough to offset the need for a SR year of development prior to the NFL.

I think if CJ has a big year and is considered a first round pick then he should go. Iowa has talent at the tight end position and Iowa getting more players into the NFL is a good thing, it helps recruiting.

I agree, I don't see that happening though.

True, but this is such a roundabout way of thinking. If I can assume that you want iowa to succeed in football, then what you're saying seems silly.

In this day and age, with the way recruiting is with the internet and stuff, it's like there are two different seasons for the fans, two different contests. The actual season, and then the recruiting. Fans demand success in both, yet only one matters. There are no awards or honors for recruiting.

CJF leaving early would mean he becomes a name-value guy representing Iowa in the NFL. Which would help Iowa's exposure with recruits, which would help Iowa's recruiting, which would give Iowa more talent, making Iowa better.

That is the most convoluted logic of all time. What would make Iowa better, tangibly better, is having one of the best TEs in the nation stay for his senior year and help the offense score points

Big time football programs have players leave early all the time, Iowa has had a few themselves. Iowa has depth at the tight end position and they will keep coming as Iowa is getting a solid reputation of producing NFL tight ends. Your thinking is narrow minded and short term. If you want Iowa to be successful long term then you want our players to develop into players that the NFL wants. In the end you get better recruits and you end up with more wins. In the perfect world yeah it would be nice for these players to stick around 4 or 5 years. But that is not the world we live in anymore.

I'd take 8-4 in a heartbeat. That at least means they beat the teams theye should have (i.e. NwU, Minny, Indy, ISU) and got a couple on the road. It's been way too long since that has been achieved on a consistent basis.

i agree that 2 yrs of solid play are better than 1 but they are predicting huge stats and with his freakish size and speed he is a nfl dream. if he gets told 1st or 2nd round i think he will be gone. kf might advise him to stay but i think he would advise him to go if he thought it was the right time.

He has the measurables, no doubt. TE's are popular picks now, that helps. Name me the last TE drafted in the top two rounds with one year of production. Gronk, Gresham and Fleener all had two solid years of production. You're talking about a TE at Iowa that had marginal stats last year and admitted in the media that he had a work ethic problem.

I think you are misquoting him.I remember him admitting that in his freshman year he didn't work as hard because he thought he could just come in and play and didn't realize how much work went into it, but he put in the work last year and that is why you saw more and more playing time as the season went on
