Keno, Pastner, Barbee

I see all three of these guys as up an comers that could breathe life into this program.

All three are uptempo guys that can relate to players.

One of these three guys should be at Iowa in a week.

Keno is at the top of my list because of his strong ties to this university and will most likely stay at Iowa once he does turn it. Plus he can really draw on the experience of his Dad.

People are throwing out Steve Forbes - does not excite me personally. Pretty boring hire if you ask me. I had that feeling when he hired Lickliter. I am afraid I would feel that way again.

I totally agree with you. Any One of these three would be a great hire and should be THE hire. All three are young, uptempo, good recruiters and would energize the basketball program and its fans. Even if Pastner and Barbee would only stay for 3 or 4 years and then bolt, I am cool with that because it means we are relevant and WINNING! That much easier to get another great coach to follow him. :)

If I recall this correctly Coach Cal and Alford are good friends. If this is indeed true, I wonder if Pastner & Barbie will be interested in Iowa after Coach Cal puts in a few bad words about us.

Barbee has now become my number one choice of the guys with head coaching experience where Iowa would definitely be a step up.

After googling Josh Pastner and reading his bio and all his success as a recruiter it excites me. Very little head coaching experience and 31 years old could be the downsides, or maybe 31 is an upside?? Im confused. He is more interesting to me then Davis or Barbee.

Interesting candidate but do you honestly think Memphis is going to let him walk after he has the #1 or #2 rated recruiting class in the nation coming in next year? It's going to take 3 mill plus probably to get him. Memphis right now is also a better job than Iowa.

Does anybody know what he is making this year? 3 million plus for a guy with so little head coaching experience? Maybe your right, I have no idea what he makes now, a young buck like that might love an opportunity to coach in the big ten.

I don't think Pastner is a pipe-dream but I just don't think Memphis will let him walk without putting a huge offer in front of him. They just lost Coach Cal a season ago and now have a replacement with a great recruiting class coming in. They offered Pearl 3.25 mill last year so they will be prepared to go big if they need to.

If Pastner wants to coach in the Big Ten so bad why not coach a few more years at Memphis and wait for a program like Illinois to open up in the next couple of years.

I like the possibility of both Pastner and Barbie but you have to be realistic. I think Barbie is more realistic coming from UTEP to the Big Ten than Memphis to the Big Ten. Yes, same conference but the money differential between those 2 programs is night and day.

How can we make up for our diffencies in the current state of the program ? New practice facility, money and the opportunity to coach in the Big Ten are probably the factors.

What about Ken? How do you think he would do compared to Barbie?

Barbee probably is more realistic, Iowa from UTEP is a huge step up, Iowa from Memphis probably a lateral move at best, lets not forget the Lute factor though, that could come into play, who knows?

I'm OK with Keano. Although there are concerns I think he would be a good fit, relate well to players and bring some excitement back into the program. He would not cost the pile of money that Pearl, Dixon and possibly Pastner would.
