Iowa’s Josh Oglesby bulks up and takes more perimeter shots | TheGazette

Good to hear. From article:

“I was looking at (Oglesby) in the weight room and me and Eric (May) have been up there, 80s and 90s (pounds) with dumbbells,â€￾ McCabe said. “(Oglesby is) right up there with us lifting 80-pound dumbbells. He’s getting bigger and stronger.â€￾

This off-season, Oglesby has responded in all venues. He wants to develop a quicker shot, similar to former teammate Matt Gatens.

“Matt’s gone and he’d get his shot off so quick,â€￾ Oglesby said. “I watched clips of him and how fast he got his shot off, and I’m trying to do that more and more each day.

“We had a team practice (Saturday), and we scrimmaged in the end. I even had coaches, (assistant coach Kirk) Speraw, come up to me afterward and saying, ‘You’re looking for your shot more,’ and he was happy about it.â€￾

Josh's lack of speed is what worries me on the defensive end.

he is longer and quicker than gatens was at this point in his career. and matt became a good defender. jo has the tools to be a solid defender. quickness of shot and strength is what he needed to work on and it sounds like he has.

Josh's D got progressively better as the season went on, he has learned to compensate for his lack of quickness on the defensive end. His footwork and positioning certainly improved.....

I think it is a good sign that he is looking for his shot more. When he is on, he is dangerous. I still love when he dribbles into the middle and nails a fadeaway turnaround jump shot. Truly a thing of beauty.....

:)

With his length, and the way he fades(which I do not like) on his shot, he will not get many blocked out beyond the arc.

That wasn't a problem last year. Josh isn't the quickest guy, but he is better with the ball than he gets credit for.
I like the ball in his hands, he is surehanded and seldom turns the ball over Josh is a very good passer, one of the best on the team.

his shot is smooth but he need to move away from defender or otherwise he will have many shots blocked
That is sound advice, Atomic, very sound indeed.....

Next season Josh will bodyslam with WildBull McCabe. The B1G will tremble with fear when the Hawks come to town.....

:D

I always knew we would return to being the bullies of the Big Ten. I just thought it would be in football.

There were times I found myself screaming at the TV for Oglesby to shoot the ball. If he starts shooting more I can see him picking up a lot of Gatens scoring from last season.

Jo deffinetly needs to pull the trigger when he's open. His confidence took a hit for a while last season.

Fran remembers the Bullies of Broad Street and wants the Lads to be tough-minded and hard-nosed. McCabe certainly didn't back down from anyone last season. And, don't forget we really owe the spartans for the Thug attitude they had at Lansing last season. It will be a different story in IC this season. We have a tradition of being beaten like dogs at Michigan State and then returning the favor at Carver.....

We shall see.....
