Sweet 16 by Geography
11 from the Midwest
4 from the South
1 from the East
0 from the West

So not only is the Big10 the best damn conference in the land. The Midwest in general is completely dominating the sport at the highest level.

I'm not sure you know your geography unless you think NC St and NC are in the midwest. Or are Kentucky and L'ville in the midwest which would make it 11 midwest teams but only 2 from the south and not the 4 you say.

East: (3)
Syracuse
North Carolina
North Carolina St

Midwest: (9)
Indiana
Xavier
Mich St
Marquette
Wisconsin
Cincinnati
Ohio St
Ohio
Kansas

South: (4)
Kentucky
L'ville
Florida
Baylor

Edit: I think I know how you figured it. You have Kentucky and L'ville in the midwest and NC and NC St in the South leaving Syracuse as the only east team right? I would but the Carolina schools in the East.

Certainly UNC and NC State are in "North" Carolina in the Eastern US and have the Atlantic Ocean as the eastern "border"

Anyone who places them in the East over the South East or "South" doesn't get it, and is just plain wrong, let alone living there.

UNC and NC State are NOT Eastern schools. Thank you.. case closed!

Another way to look at the geography--

Teams from the Ohio River Valley:
Ohio
Ohio State
Xavier
Cincinnati
Louisville
Indiana
Kentucky

Teams from anywhere else:
Baylor
Wisconsin
Syracuse
UNC
NC-State
Michigan State
Florida
Marquette
Kansas

There is so much good basketball in that small chunk of America this year. It's kind of amazing.

(Also, I agree with AZ. North Carolina is a southern state.)

I like your geographic central look (bias)...

Anyone else with such a fresh take geographically, politically or cultchurely? (SP?)

Louisville and Kentucky are midwest schools.. Louisville is as far north as some areas of southern indiana and lexington is not much farther south.

tennessee is a southern state.

For the record, I counted UK as Midwestern and Baylor as Southern ... though some people seem to think Texas is more Midwest than Southern, and some people might say Kentucky is more Southern than Midwest. Louisville plays in the Big East, but Louisville is certainly a Midwestern city. The Carolinas are definitely Southern, that line is somewhere in Virginia, close to DC.

East = Syracuse
South = Baylor, Florida, UNC, NCSU
Midwest = all the rest

BTW, UK would drop the SEC in a heartbeat if it could get into the Big10.
