Gatens isn't a great Hawk?

I think whoever wasn't giving him his well-deserved props the other day in that thread look like fools.

Gatens was solid his first 3 years, but I can't think of another Hawkeye in my lifetime that has stepped it up to a completely other level his Senior year. He has been outstanding and you can tell its hit home that this is his last go around and he wants to play in some tournament in March.

Ha! I knew this thread would be here.

Absolutely a great Hawk. But I said that last time too. What a game, and what a showing of clutch shooting.

I like that he is showing some emotion. We have not seen that out of him much. Seems like he is finally enjoying himself.

I'm really hoping he gets some sort of postseason play even if it's the NIT or CBI. He deserved a lot better than the failed Lickliter experiment and ensuing rebuilding process.

I'm speechless so I'll just type it. PHENOMENAL performance. To expend the kind of energy he does on defense and just getting open on offense and to shoot like that? Awesome.

HE IS HAVING A GREAT YEAR. SO HAPPY FOR HIM. He'll go down as one of the best Iowa BB players of all time - and he certainly deserves it!!!

One of the best Iowa bball players in the history of the program...

I wouldn't go that far, but he's definitely among the truest Hawkeyes in the history of the program, right up there with Chris Street.

He's having a good year for us, but he's not in the class of Marble, B.J., Downtown Freddie Brown, etc.

Hoping and crossing fingers Iowa can win at least 5 to 7 more wins and end up in any post season run. Would prefer the NCAA or NIT but the CBI or is it CBCC or CB we won would work for me.

I knew in his frosh year he was made of tough stuff. Never forget that game vs Wisky when he was assigned to guard power forward senior strongman Joe Krabbenhoft...and Krabby elbowed Matt right in the face, with matt getting called for the foul. Matt spit out blood and kept playing. A true Hawkeye...I dearly hope we can win on Senior Day vs NW so that postgame ceremony is a joyous one. If we lose,he will not be a happy camper. I thought his quote in the DI tonite was great when asked about his show of emotion at the end of the game '' I was just happy to see everyone happy, my teammates and the fans....not much of that around here in recent years''....makes me proud to be hawk fan..men like Matt.
