I know you have a weird relationship around here and some people don't like you and some people don't know if they like you. I'm just curious when your posting things about Iowa do you even realize that Northwestern is not a very disireable place. I know you like to use your little quips and subtle downplays of our program for your own humor but I just want to make sure that you realize Northwestern is way below Iowa in the eyes of probably 90% of Americans. And whats really funny is that I actually caught you comparing the two schools which is hilarious. So I guess you can keep posting while living off the success of your womens lacrosse teams. Go Cats.

I often wondered this myself. What is it about the Iowa message boards that keep you coming here posing as a Hawk fan?

This is a question that has plagued mankind for years. Is he a deranged Hawk fan? Is he really a Northwestern supporter? Whats in the secret sauce at McDonalds? These are all important questions.

Iowa is a program that is currently on average about a game better than NU in the regular season in football and is materially worse than NU in basketball. Ferentz has also consistently lost to Northwestern. I am a huge Hawks fan and have been my whole life, I am just sour that we have fallen so far below Wisconsin and are now more on par with Northwestern than the top of the second tier of programs in the B10 where we generally were not too long ago.

I live three blocks from Northwestern and I think the town is a million times better than IC other than the bar scene and the lack of hot coeds (as a surly old man, I ain't complaining there aren't a lot of noisy bars), but there are plenty of bars and hot coeds 3 miles down the road by Loyola or a few more miles down the road by DePaul in Wrigleyville. Additionally, I have never been waited on by a recent Northwestern grad in restaurants or bars, so I commend them for having robust academics and career placement opportunities, which is more than I can say for the fine folks running the University of Iowa.

Northwestern's facilities for revenue sports flat out suck. Absolutely and totally suck. Fitz wants to build a huge football facility over by the Lake, but that is some of the most pricey land in the Midwest and he is going to have a hard time getting it done. They need to upgrade Ryan Field and Welsh-Ryan in a major way, but their attendance is a total joke, so nothwithstanding the $6 billion endowment, I don't see any serious upgrades happening. The Minnesota and MSU games were sad, but as long as I live up there and tickets are super cheap and kegs and hard liquor are welcome at the tailgates, I will keep getting tickets for football because frankly, as much as I love the Hawks, the drive to IC to watch a team like the one we had this year isn't worth it for all 7 home games, especially with the cops from Marion, West Liberty, Coralville, IC and every other town within 50 miles looking to write tickets for carrying 12 ounces of beer on the sidewalk.

Now I'm wondering if you even live where you say you do. Evanston is not near as rosy as you're trying to portray it. How many NW students have been held up on campus in just the last month? At least 3 or 4; possibly more. Evanston has some pretty scummy parts to it. Particularly the South and West edges of "town".

And your comments about "hot coeds" and "plenty of bars" by Loyola is laughable. That area just west of Loyola is a shiat hole! No WAY would catch any hotties out in that area past dark. Devon and Pratt are such lovely places to find yourself late at night.

Also, why are you bringing Chicago into your comparison of IC vs Evanston? LP/East Lakeview aren't even close to Loyola or NW.

This thread now has potential. I always enjoy reading ok4p's glossed-up versions of how kewl Evan's Town is.
Good work, Sheagle.

Every time I roll by Loyola, I see tons of little slam pieces walking around. Evanston is not as safe as say, Clive, but around downtown is fine. Every college campus attracts a criminal element. Lincoln Park/East Lakeview is a very easy train ride down from Evanston. I mean, I know Chicago is no Coralville, but I used to have to go to Coralville sometimes when I lived in IC, so an adjacent town is relevant to the discussion.

I'm really familiar with all of the areas you describe. First off, living in the Wrigleyville area is really nice because there are scores of very attractive women living/working/dining/drinking there. When I moved to Wisconsin from that area, I went through withdrawal.

Evanston has some very nice parts to it, and the southern part, as it bleeds into Rogers Park, is not so nice. However, as OK4P noted, Downtown Evanston is really nice. Loyola has a ton of nice coeds walking around. There are some really crappy areas near Loyola (back to the Rogers Park thing)...

But alas, Chicago is no Coralville.

I still think he's a fake. And he's definitely not a true Hawk fan. At least not like the true Hawk fans I know.

This is the funniest thread ever. What is a "little slam piece"? I live in Lincoln Square so I can roll up to check this out. Comparing Evanston and IC is apples and oranges. Both have their benefits. We might actually move up to Evanston in the coming years b/c it does have extremely nice areas near the Stadium and downtown--much like the S. of Grand Area in Des Moines. One of the draws for me is that it is a college town. However, I don't think I could ever bring myself to cheer for that school given their curse over Iowa athletics the past decade.

Oh, so the Hawk fans you know didn't melt down after our THIRD STRAIGHT LOSS to Northwestern? I sure as hell did. racerhawk, SDK46, spank and a host of others can all attest to the fact that I am indeed a true Hawk fan.

Don't you have another sig you need to add to your collection?

My work has urban dictionary blocked, but I would bet you can find a slam piece definition on there. On Halloween, I must have circled several blocks off Sheridan a few times because there was just so much talent wandering around by Loyola, but this time of year, it ain't great due to the weather. Go up there in the spring, you won't be disappointed.

Hit me up if you're moving up to Evanston. You can come tailgate with us. Notice I say tailgate. Despite having season tickets, I made it to less than 1 hour of gametime of Northwestern games. By the Rice game, half of my crew just flat out stopped going to the games and just tailgated. One of my buddies already decided he's out for season tix next year, he just wants to tailgate. Our tailgate has zero Northwestern fans at it and everyone sports their school's colors. Next year we are getting a generator so we can set up a TV out there so we won't miss any key games.

Living by Northwestern sounds awesome. ;)
