keys to Braska game

Weather: so far windy the day before and after, rain possible.

On D: Seems like we have played the option/spread teams well this year. T-mart cant throw well anyway and it may be windy and or wet that day. If he throws it will be very short, we need to play really up close/tight, physical coverage. DL and LB's need to play somewhat like the Michigan game, except we need to plan for the late pitch out. Thats their bread and butter. Braska is going to bring all they have after they lost last week, that means we need to be VERY PHYSICAL and EXPECT THEM TO THROW EVERYTHING THEY HAVE INCLUDING THE KITCHEN SINK AT US, INCLUDING TRICK PLAYS. We need to limit breakdowns. Make no mistake they want this win, we need to want it more.

On O: With the weather, CJ picking it up and the fact I think they will try and rattle Vandy, I think a heavy dose of those plays might loosen things up for Coker and company. Vandy needs to be prepared to "shorten" it up a bit and take exactly what they give us. Nebraskas DL is thin and very runable against and they know this, so they will most likely try and crowd the los and bring pressure. Their secondary is somewhat suspect, but again wet or wind might play into it and help them out. With Rogers/Coker helping block out back, those short, "make you" pay plays could be our bread and butter. COACHES NEED TO MAKE CALLS TO WHAT THEY ARE GIVING. Execution and focus will be needed to get the win. Remember D minded coaches run an O that they find hard to cover.

Play hard boys, remember pain heals (you'll have a month after this), glory last forever (get this new "series" off to a good start) and chicks dig scars (and money and a big Johnson). ON IOWA, GO HAWKS!!

You make it way too complicated. We just have to score more points than them.

Nailed it! I think the tone will be set in the 1st qtr. Whether we start with the ball or not, our D needs to have an impressive 3-and-out and our O needs to put 7 up right away. If we jump out early and set the tone I think we could deflate this team as they'll be thinking another 45-17 beatdown is ensuing.

Just a thought...

Pry what OSU thought as well.

Turnovers are gonna play a huge role in this game. I see a very low scoring game. I really hope Iowa plays with emotion and anger, much like Michigan game. And I hope KF takes at least some risks. But I know that's alot to ask for of him.

Did I miss the memo or the meeting where we decided to start referring to them as "Braska" ?

Yesterday memo was sent out around 0755 hrs. It stated "we will now refer to Nebraska as Braska." Sorry you didn't get it, I personally don't like it but majority rules.

Play defense like Iowa played against Michigan this year.
Stack the LOS. STAY IN GAPS even when Nebby's QB scrambles. Stop the run.
Make Nebby pass.

Parker knows how to do this - he's done this for years.

It will be a low scoring game. I won't bet on this game.

If by "stack" the l.o.s., you mean "tight to" then, absolutely. If you mean 8 in the box, then no. What Iowa did against Michigan was to cheat the outside backer / corner nearly up to the l.o.s. -- to the point it often looked like a 5-2. What they also did was to line up and play "wide". This allowed them to avoid the inherent collapse / loss of contain from the base 4-3 and keep Shoelace corralled. They will need to do the same to Martinez.

You are spot on about making him pass. However, they also need to be aggressive -- meaning, again, tight to the l.o.s. -- and sell out to play man with the safeties to offer more run support. Fools if the gameplan calls for base, soft 4-3 bend / don't break cushions. You attack a poor passer by baiting him to pass.

As you said, Norm knows how to defend a run-first QB. Question is, is Norm even that involved in the physical preparation and will the assistants who are pulling double duty be aggressive enough to do so?
